Resh tried her best to figure it out... A for effort lol

Karina used resh for her revenge but never wanted to go through with her end of their transaction to begin with. She maybe could have found refuge with resh's tribe without making this deal. She could teach them to read and stuff but her overwhelming desire for revenge led her to yet another dead end she never wanted. Seems her revenge did not mend her wounded heart at all. If she could find the strength to tell reshtoka how she feels perhaps there'd be a light at the end of the tunnel.

The wolfkin scribe from the capital will have to intercept reshtoka and explain things to her properly in a way she can understand or there will be blood T_T

This manga's problem is being too off-trope. Tropes are good because they are [EDIT] efficient shorthand for communicating roles, expectations, conflict, and likely direction [END EDIT], so people know where the story stands. This story doesn't do that.

Karina was wronged. Her sister was the weak one who got more attention and protection thanks to that. Still, she loved her. Then, instead of the sister, Karina was made the princess. So she took the role. She thought she was proper, but everyone ended up hating her. Prince even threw her out. By then, her relationship with her sister was I assume on level of sending a postcard once a year. At least I don't think we have other information.

So when she met her sister, she was already hated by everyone, and even if her sister didn't know a thing, doesn't matter. Their worlds were already split. For Karina, what was purpose of her life? Because we don't see anything from her which we could call selfish. She was thrown out as an outcast. Her life suddenly changed from having purpose to not being welcome. Alone.

Revenge... Of course she wants something. But what it is? Is it making the wedding fail? Probably. But once they did it, she did nothing and left without any serious lasting effects. So when there was opportunity to do her revenge - I expected them all to get killed. But it was only reveal - I am still alive. I still am here. You have your wedding. This should have been mine wedding. You thought you threw me out. But now I am here. And then she left.

Humans, am I right?... Reshtoka is wolf. I think the story shown that humans and wolfs are different. It's a fairy tale when human and wolf actually end up together. So Reshtoka doesn't understand Karina. Wolves seem to be direct. Humans are NOT. As ShyGuy-096 hinted - we wouldn't have Shakespeare. Being direct and talk our issues is not what we do. Often, we don't even consciously know what we want. We think we want something, but it will never fullfil the real need.

If the author goes this way, it's not fitting the tropes, and it's not well communicated. It's not served on silver plate - maybe that will come later? It might just be a bad story, too. We'll see I guess.

Ok so that's how the fairy tale plays out. She kills Aurora, Karina crashes out because it wasn't what she really wanted and rejects Reshtoka, which makes her crash out and kills Karina in a fit of despair.
That's how "volume 2" plays out, yes, but there's supposed to be a sequel even after that.
... though if it sticks to classic fairy tale structure, I really can't imagine what could still happen after the princess gets eaten.

It's seems the princess she's going to eat won't actually be our main girl

Except she wasn't just saying it aloud, she was internalizing it, rationalizing it, hoping for it. It was literally her lifeline for surviving out in the cold region until she met Reshtoku. You can't get any more of 'wanting revenge' than that.
People internalize, rationalize, and hope for things that make them miserable, that aren't really aligned with their desires, literally all the time. That it was her lifeline and that doing the revenge has proven so unsatisfying just makes it worse. She both feels worse because she never actually wants to take revenge and her singular lifeline has been robbed from her all in one fell swoop. This isn't even that complicated psychology.
If Karina had already given up on fixing her relationship with her sister, then she doesn't nor didn't always want to make up with Aurora like you said. It no longer serves as her motivation or goal, and thus can't be considered to be something that she wants.
People don't always act upon their desires. In this case, Karina had convinced herself that it was impossible. This isn't her thinking it isn't desirable. She has been too hurt to look at it rationally, so all she can do is look at every action of her sister's as an attack on her because that's the only way she can mentally handle how things went in their relationship with each other. This doesn't at all mean she doesn't want to fix that relationship, far from it. If she didn't want to fix that relationship, it wouldn't hurt so much that she couldn't look at the actions her sister took rationally.

Yeah... no. I'll make it simple and list four characters here who internalize their desires without making themselves miserable:

Crown Prince:
  • What does he want? To marry Aurora and to see Karina suffer.
  • Does he rationalize it? Yes he does.
  • Does he internalize it? We haven't heard his private thoughts, but I assume that he does. He's the idiotic type who doesn't hide his thoughts after all.
  • Is he motivated by it? Yes. Definitely, it's what drove his actions.

Aurora:
  • What does she want? To 'save' Karina apparently.
  • Does she rationalize it? Yes she does... to an extent.
  • Does she internalize it? Based on the story she told to Eve... Yes to an extent.
  • Is she motivated by it? Yes, to an extent. She has acted (albeit late) to save Karina's life.

Reshtoku:
  • What does she want? To marry Karina like how the folk story goes.
  • Does she rationalize it? Yes, she does.
  • Does she internalize it? Yes, she does.
  • Is she motivated by it? Yes... definitely. It's what drove her to try and grant all of Karina's desires and wishes.

Eve:
  • What does she want? To find out and write down the accurate account of history, including recent events.
  • Does she rationalize it? Yes, she does.
  • Does she internalize it? Yes, she does.
  • Is she motivated by it? Yes, definitely. To the point where even when she was scolded by the king, she continued regardless.

Do you see where this is going? Pain or not, Karina's desire for revenge was literally a motivation and something she wanted. It's what pushed the plot until the wedding crash, where she didn't achieve it.

Let's be honest, what did Karina achieve with her 'revenge'?
  • Did anyone get killed or hurt? No
  • Did Karina do any lasting damage to the Empire's image? No
  • Did Karina take anything of value? No... lol!
  • Did Karina at least show them and/or made them understand the pain that they had put her through? No...

Karina didn't achieve anything that could even be considered revenge, so ofc she feels hollow and unsatisfied. She didn't resolve or achieved anything, let alone do anything to help herself move past it. Now once again, it could also just be a case of Karina simply losing the desire for revenge, which is more than fair (especially with the time skip). However, that's where the story failed, since it didn't properly show or hint at that. At most, it simply hinted at Karina wanting to find a new motivation after getting her revenge, which she'd consider to be falling in love with Reshtoku. When a character has a change of heart, it's up to the story to show it and/or the process of said change (and if not that, at least show the budding sprout for said change), not expect the readers to fill in the blanks for themselves.

I mean if we're just talking about now, then sure. Karina's mentality is obviously crumbling. But we're not. From the moment she was banished (where she was sound of mind), Karina had held an antagonistic view of her sister and even held her in as much contempt as the prince, who literally had abused her verbally and took his frustration out on her. There was nothing to show that Karina wanted to repair her relationship with her sister only to deem it impossible. In fact, it's only because of Aurora's PoV that it even seems like a possibility. Because before Aurora stated her own desires and wishes to save Karina, it seemed as though Karina was fair in showing her anger towards her family.

I get that most folks here hate the story (or lack of?), but why do you keep reading if you hate it so much, lol.

I know the story isn't superb, but it isn't that poor either. It's just focused on the main couple dynamics. It's not like this is Rent a Girlfriend.

For me, Eve's introduction was the story's saving grace for me. At this point, I'm not rooting for anyone aside from her to find the truth. And if she does, I hope she plasters it all over the kingdom. It'd do far more damage than what Karina did.

How she's feeling now gives us insight into her desires and needs before now. You can't treat her current feelings as some separate thing from that. Her mentality is crumbling entirely because actually taking revenge has revealed to her that she never wanted it in the first place, even tho she believed she wanted it, and she's in total denial of this revelation leaving her only able to feel pain and sadness and anger.

To be fair, most people are not. Might come from experience. Ability to put oneself into the shoes of other. Plus people are not always readable. I wouldn't make more of it than having different opinion. Having to learn other people's point of view is valuable too. Only Author knows the true intentions.
