@justforthelulz it does work wonders because you don't need to think about the number as much. It's essentially an external memory device that you can manipulate with a proper set of rules to modify the numbers inside. So, in essence, it's like a CPU, but decimal and way less automatic. The core principle is still the same, so it complies with the much simpler math and physics than our brains do. So, our brains, that work to search for probabilities, actually need way more energy than when working with an algorithm without doing actual calculations: we just move the abacus and it does calculations for us.

And it also makes us rely on it a lot, just like people who have calculators on them at all times (like small business shopkeepers) actually can't calculate in their head as fast as the people who don't, because they don't need to.

Whenever they come up, I can't help but think the authors of these stories don't know how ancient and universal the abacus was.

Sh*t got deep unexpectedly. Sadly MC will be leaving someday. He still has a family and in the end he’s just a old Uncle!! THIS STORY GOTS A LOT OF POTENTIAL. I can see the old villainess coming back

Flashback about how Grace was as a kid was unexpected and a nice touch...

I'd love a twist where it turns out Grace is Grace and not the oji-san, but the oji-san's sudden influx of memories caused her to revert to her original personality which cares for others.

Looking forward to a return to school and more developments with the heroes.

The manga doesn't have a romance tag so probably Oji-san will just continue being wholesome and watching over the heroine.

I'm very much enjoying the pace of this story.

Thanks for the translation!

would that be a slide rule or an abacus? For a metal worker, or a 58 year old civil servant, slide rule makes more sense, but this is Japanese, so...

Aw dang, this is a really good setup for the abbacus!! It felt like it came completely out of nowhere in the original version.

Plus, the flashback to Grace being a wholesome little muffin was really adorable <3

having an old man be the MC means we don't have to deal with this misunderstanding bs. He just understands since he had a daughter and work place experience, thats really neat

@Yorple You might say he's actually quite lucky to still be so familiar with a mechanical computing device; he would have actually used an electronic calculator for most of his life. Pocket calculators were already a thing in the 70's. In the 80's, there's no way he would have anymore purposefully relied on mechanical calculation devices. The 80's was already the time of PCs, after all, and specialised programs for whatever people were doing, if they had to do something more complicated. For things not requiring a full computer, scientific calculators were already very commonplace in the 80's. Japan was an electronic calculator superpower anyway, so the chances for the MC to have used one from very early on are even higher than for someone from many other countries.

I wonder if the character herself is still conscious and learning it’s okay to be more gentle with herself so if she does get her body back she can be more at ease
There's no getting her body back, since she never lost it. The old man died and was reincarnated as Grace. Grace grew up, then hit her head, and remembered her past life. Grace is now a mix of both people's personalities and has both sets of memories. They always had the same soul. His personality is stronger because he had a lot more time to cement it.
