so wholesome, can’t wait to see more development between the two of them
There are reasons why she doesn't want her son to be in such situation. I suggest you read the novel on NovelUpdates...not too realistic. She's oddly concerned about them being alone in same room together. And additionally says it's not ok to make advances on a girl (so if her concern had been correct, she would still have been berating him).
Besides, might just be used to western cultures, but isn't it a rarity in japan too for parents to not own a car (she didn't offer her a ride home)?
This.
So he has an std, and sleeping undefended means someone pulling a prank is at risk~ Particularly if it is a girl with the hots for him~There are reasons why she doesn't want her son to be in such situation. I suggest you read the novel on NovelUpdates...
Most ppl use public transit here too, and only a fraction of ppl own a car. However, people that live in a villa (like mc's family) almost always own a car (rather, the progression tends to be apartment -> car -> villa; due to scaling costs and how much useful increased mobility is when you already have housing, compared to increased housing; Also usually further from centrum, so cars are even more comfort-improving once you live in one), particularly if they have children. Particularly particularly if they are old enough said children start getting lovers. As for the car, most people in Japan heavily rely on public transportations (if they live in the cities) instead of private cars & having cars required having sufficient space at home to accommodate them...
It's even worse in the novel, to the point that she won't even let him go in the bathroom after Umi has a bath because she thinks he'll do something with her bathwater.I.. actually don't like the mom. She comes across as kinda.. bitchy? Like, despite saying so, she clearly doesn't trust her son to be alone in a room with a girl. Which is just sad, and honestly pretty messed up on her end. You can be a sensible parent and not act like your teenage son is a potential sex offender.
That's... what? That is so messed up, what the heck. It's even worse in the novel, to the point that she won't even let him go in the bathroom after Umi has a bath because she thinks he'll do something with her bathwater.
"I can't use my friends bathwater after she's done using it?! Mom you're so messed up and bitchy!"That's... what? That is so messed up, what the heck.
My previous statement feels even more justified now.
He literally mentions they could just drain the bathwater, but no... he gets shut out regardless."I can't use my friends bathwater after she's done using it?! Mom you're so messed up and bitchy!"
No, but seriously, I think as other's have stated you're reading into things a bit too much. She does trust him, she just wants him to err on the side of caution because it's easy to get swept up in things, especially when you're young. That's not going to stop her from teasing him about it though, as we've seen a bit of this chapter.
If you look back at the end of chapter 7, Maki's family live in an apartment. However, people that live in a villa (like mc's family) almost always own a car
I'm sorry, but if her behaviour here appears to be 'teasing' to you and others, you might want to take a second hard look. That is the face of someone who is 100% serious. While, yes, she should have some reservations about him bringing over a girl without her knowledge even if they're just hanging out as friends, her reaction is judging him as guilty when he hasn't (and won't) do anything wrong. He is a sensible young man and she is jumping to conclusions and treating him like he is seconds away from pushing a girl down and having his way with her."I can't use my friends bathwater after she's done using it?! Mom you're so messed up and bitchy!"

so they shouldnt act like people who just met 2 months ago…? why and that wouldnt make any senseThey should seriously just skip all the silly non-relationship drama and just admit they like each other. You can still do all the goofy hanging-out tropes and whatnot if they're a couple that you can do if they're still pretending that he's pining for her best friend.
