The night elves are simply like that. The jailor mentioned that they use the prisoners to practice torture techniques.

In the novel it's also mentioned that they use prisoners for archery practice and testing poisons.

Like the demons they have no respect for human(or elven) life.

In the novel there's no mention of sexual assault and the author thankfully clarifies that Liliana wasn't subject to that at least because the night elves see forest elves as animals and therefore would consider having sex with one as bestiality.

You're wasting your time, tbh. This manga is bound to get a bunch of emotional normie responses (then filter them right out after they drop it). I doubt they care if it makes sense or the reasoning behind it.

Supposedly humans are losing the war against demons and their allies, but I have trouble comprehending that given how chaotic and disorganized the leadership is, on top of apparently the upper echelons are constantly fighting and killing each other. Then there is the fact they are constantly wasting possible labor sources just to torture and kill for both pleasure and education. It just gives me this feeling that the demons are just failing upwards… somehow? The scope of the conflict feels weird, as apparently the top of demon is so strong that there is no infighting, which makes no sense given just how these characters have been presented.

Personally it’s just kind of breaking my immersion. Supposedly humans are losing the war against demons and their allies, but I have trouble comprehending that given how chaotic and disorganized the leadership is, on top of apparently the upper echelons are constantly fighting and killing each other. Then there is the fact they are constantly wasting possible labor sources just to torture and kill for both pleasure and education. It just gives me this feeling that the demons are just failing upwards… somehow? The scope of the conflict feels weird, as apparently the top of demon is so strong that there is no infighting, which makes no sense given just how these characters have been presented.

Again one of those things the novel explains a lot better, but basically despite all these issues(which MC seeks to exploit eventually) the demons are still overwhelmingly more powerful than the panhuman alliance races to the extent they're deliberately slowing down the rate at which they conquer new territory in order to delay the ending where they turn on each other and destroy their own kingdom after running out of external enemies.

I'm fine with that. I feel like too many works nowadays try to make everyone "they're not really that bad", or " the good guys are bad too!"

So, the original post he was quoting was going "I don't get how they can torture people like this and not get that they're the bad guys" to which he said "it's their culture". This isn't about him saying it's okay/good, it's about these people being brought up in a society where it's normal, so they're likely to not ever think otherwise. If you're raised in a society where torturing another race is commonplace+normal, it wouldn't be surprising to see you end up also torturing that other race when you grow up, regardless of if an outside observer would think it's cruel.

People like to think that their moral compass is entirely their own and that even if they were raised elsewhere they would be just as good a person, but it's just not true. Upbringing is a huge part of what forms your moral compass, it's why nobility(and the modern mega-rich) have less empathy for the lower class, it's why slavery was so accepted 300 years ago. These people are not fundamentally, biologically, predisposed to being worse people. They're just raised in environments that turns them into them.

Back to the manga: Obviously, we get that these dark elves are doing something evil, that's the point. But a dark elf raised to think "the forest elves are lesser, and they're the bad guys, so it's our right to do with them as we please" isn't likely to think twice about doing these things + think of themselves as the "evil" ones.

The novel has many such moments that subvert the usual tropes in this kind of series(I.e. "th demons were framed/ misunderstood by humans") and show the MC why coexistence with the demonic races may be impossible after all.

The manga gives a good insight as well. The first demon king travelled outside of the deamon region. Saw the riches, technologies, magic and civilization of the other species. Instead of learning from it decided to unite deamons by force and send them to conquer because he wanted them free gibs. Remember they didn't even treat him badly during his travels.

Seriously these deamons deserve all genocide they have coming for them and their dank elves lackeys should get it too.

I think the challenge here is that there is an attempt within demon-hood to move away from these kinds of things, but it's also true that it's inherently part of them, so the question remains if some demons are redeemable or none of them are.

I can appreciate the nuance with the writing here. The author takes the time to humanize the demons and dark elves, show their quirks and humanity, show us their children and families...and then reminds us that they're still irredeemable monsters that relish in pain, suffering, and bloodshed.

The night elves do care for their own, which is something but they will never see humans, and members of the pan-human alliance as equals.

Liliana killing 5 people to escape is like a no duh, understandable asf. Essentially Demon Society is monsterous you want them to live peacefully with the other races, hell the other races would have been cool with that too, but now there is definitely no way.

Jilbagias has an issue with helping humanity, he is now a demon prince. They will be on their toes forever around him, expecting a double cross, and planning to double cross him. And I understand why they would he is a demon prince literally an example of their greatest enemy.
