Service update (Jan 27th)
We are aware of the slow loading. The site is probably getting DDoSed, so please bear with us while we work on mitigation.

Patience peeps.

@Evandel it did happen, there was an announcement regarding site update and in that update one guy from the mangadex staff said that some groups were receiving death threats. no joke.

Okay, so does anyone know if mangadex will be posting a site wide announcement after the DDoS attacks are done? Like a “We survived, now go binge read the 1000+ series you wanted to read but were unable to because of that DDoS attack” type of announcement?

Decided to paint my house while the page loads. Just finished and the page is half loaded. Guess I'll paint the neighbors house too.

A subtle reminder that we can never seem to have anything nice in this community. Batoto was essentially killed by the constant attacks and scraper bots becoming a huge hassle. Maybe for once we could, y'know actually fucking leave things be?

I knew this site would eventually get DDoSed. Seems like people that want more traffic target popular sites like these. I don't mind going through that little cloud flare loading screen if it helps protect you guys.

I really like mangadex and its features, is there a way of donating so they can have better server protection and hosting?

Couldn't you just temporarily block all requests from users not logged into an account or would that not help? Not too familiar with how DDoS attacks work.

@DarkDooM By the sounds of it, the image server itself is being targetted. If it were a direct attack on the site, then I imagine it'd be tough to even load the main page.

I'm curious, does getting DDoSed affect all querying IPs/locations equally? I run a VPN (almost) full-time, and initially thought it was just an issue with the specific tunnel I was using, but turning off the VPN made things even slower. With the VPN enabled, using either Japanese or Taiwanese servers, I can at least get manga pages to load in around10 seconds, a bit longer for the full colour ones. With other tunnels (tried Miami, New Jersey, Stockholm, Amsterdam and Singapore so far) it takes way longer, sometimes even "times out" and shows a page with site background and icons but a blank space (I'm on the Classic view) where the manga page is supposed to be.

I would suggest contacting Cloudflare or if you have another domain, create a pagerule that redirects mangadex.org to your new domain (preferably under Cloudflare as well)

@DarkDooM Let's say there is an event at a stadium that you have tickets to. The stadium is in New York and can hold 100000 ppl and you live just outside the city. You leave to go to the stadium but at the same time the entirety of New York just randomly decides to just show up and buy tickets at the gate. Even if the city starts turning people away and closing highways declares marshal law and gives you a polices escort there is no way in hell you are getting to that event on time.

@OneDeltaTenTango I know it wouldn't resolve the entire situation but wouldn't it at least lessen the burden on the servers, since no images would be served to them anymore? As long as the DDoS attack isn't too huge.
