@LysandersTreason The Damsel in Distress trope isn’t exactly a vital ingredient to a good shoujo. It’s arguably
especially terrible to use it in shoujo, since the target demographic is young girls.
Also, the whole “maidens getting saved by heroic knights”/Male-Saves-Female thing is a cheap tactic used in all types of fiction & media — regardless of genre (seinen, shounen, etc) — bc it’s so common & easy to characterize women as helpless & ever so desperately in need of a man to guide them. It’s like a Deus Ex Machina for hetromance.
At this pt, it rlly only serves as an unnecessary ego boost for men & to reaffirm classic negative biases about female autonomy & independence.

Obviously, I too could’ve done with some more independent action, but whatever. Hopefully we’ll see some character development & self-determination from the protag later on.
