I don't know, even if I stood my ground in his position, I wouldn't group up with any of them, even the saintess, no matter how 'nice' she may seem.

Felt like that was more his idealism about his position somewhere prestigious being shot down by the teacher/general atmosphere rather than him being a stuttering nothing-person like a lot of MCs. feels pretty reasonable to get emotional about the circumstances of what's absolutely the most important thing going on in his life by orders of magnitude.
