I think for many it's just kind of a bizarre setup. Not really sure why people are weirdos for not really buying into this. The author began the story of an ex showing up with her daughter asking to stay at a dude's house, despite not having any contact with him in 17 years. A premise like that of course leaves people with a lot of questions and concerns.
