You'd think so... But that tournament itself would be a good place to assess the current crop of younglings to begin with if the demons do gather intelligence, regardless of our MC being there and showing off.

I've a feeling there's some strict security in the background that's simply not relevant to the story and is simply left out.

In RPGs, you can often attack yourself to avoid the enemy reflecting the attack for that reason.

I also remember playing a thorns aura tank sorc in Diablo 2. Not quite the cookie cutter build, but very fun.

In another manga damage reflection is comparison to how much MP he has. So, if the attack if overwhelm the MP, it will break. Not sure how mechanism in this series, though.
