The orignial is in Swedish by Ted Gärdestad (tragic lifestory on the man, but Swedish music treasure, top comment provides some context), but this version is in english so there wont be any need to go back and forth lyrically (and it is translated from A to Z, so nothing is lost in the meaning)

i was really thinking that this song reminded me of ABBA, funny that the original writer knew the band (and the duo in this cover is also Swedish). 8.4/10

8.3/10, it is pretty good, perhaps even a classic, but maybe a bit long and repetitive. everyone only listens to it for that one part too. i also don't think i'd rate the single separate from the club mix in the future btw

No need to review, but here, some of the only footage I could find of the partnership. (It has english subs you can put on)

As it were, its later in his life things went upside down. Schizophrenia, gets roped into a cult that has him commit to selfharm, is falsesly accused as a suspect in the murder of Olof Palme, the PM at the time (whole other bag of worms to dive into) and other personal things

He jumped onto the tracks in 1997. Still extremely beloved to this day (There isnt a graduation where his stuff isnt played), but a tragic end for someone like him. I dont know if there's a American equivalent.

Maybe like..if Bob Dylan died young with a touch of the whatif'ness of Elvis. Thats kind of how popular he was and is here in Sweden.

Oh, you like Daryl Hall & John Oates? (...he asked, unsurprised....) I'm a fan of their early stuff - lots of good work over their whole career, but there's a spark in the first couple albums that somehow tended to get buried under layers of production when they moved to RCA after War Babies. Here's a great live version of "She's Gone" - not just demonstrating their ability to do the material live but also those pants Oates is wearing, man....

8.6/10. funnily enough, She's Gone and Sara Smile are probably the only two out of their most popular songs that i've hardly listened to. they do a great job live though, their vocals really are S tier. unmatched. never to be seen again. a few of their (70s) songs i like are Portable Radio, Crazy Eyes, and A Lot of Changes Comin' (though only the last one is pre War Games.)

and damn, those really are some nice pants...

And since no one has thrown a Three Dog Night song out there yet, here's 'Never Been to Spain', written (like most of their better songs) by someone else - in this case Hoyt Axton, who was possibly the only person to be able to say that both he and his mother wrote hits for Elvis. This one's a bit of a throwaway, but it really winds up nicely.

there was a Three Days Grace song, surely that counts for something? honestly i don't think i've ever heard of Three Dog Night until now. not a bad song though, 7.6/10
