the entire situation just doesn't make sense, why throw away any hope for your mother by taking the poison (and mission) if you know you can't survive after so many efforts, at this point the only explanation is that he is dumber than a rock
Yes I can't see the thought progress. If he already received the money why not buy the medicine and run away? If that's impossible and he had to die anyway why go through with the plot, he could just kill himself in that case. He had nothing to gain by turning into a zombie.

Is it Just me or is Rei really less empathetic? She knew that guy for a while and she couldn’t care less when he suddenly betrayed them.. Claire despite being the “villainess” has far more empathy and emotional intelligence than Rei..
Rei is VERY good at repressing her emotions, she also is somewhat disassociated from her time before she recovered her memories.

Moreover she is smart enought to realize that she had to act, or they all would be dead

Even if this series can get crazy enjoyable chapter love when they start using their magic etc. And I'd say the reason she didn't really care is def because she was Isekai'd and even though the real Rei would be sad this happened our Rei isn't that same Rei from the game.

So what if it took a bit longer to translate RL always comes first yeah? Thank you for the chapter <3

When he saw/heard the mission "get a load of money but you will die during the assassination" he thought it was a good idea somehow

I like how she talked about knowing a cure for that poison, but then the poison killed him in like 2 seconds? I feel like that doesn't add up.

I guess he did say it was like, modified? But damn, why isn't the baseline that fast acting too if they can make it that way

Rei is focused on one goal, but yes here she is less sympathetic to her friend's betrayal. It might be easier for Claire since she did not know him and his betrayal might have been less personal for her. He did wind up killing many for his efforts, so I wouldn't say that Rei's reaction shows a lack of "emotional intelligence" as if hating someone who caused this amount of turmoil is wrong. She also had to act practically here rather than emotionally in order to keep Claire safe. There's a range of reactions to that kind of event and these two just showed two of them.

You seem to forget the Rei before isekai was even more emotionless than this one. Personally if a friend tried to kill my loved ones, I would kill him then piss on his grave. The fact that she didn't go against Claire's wish to salvage his reputation is kind enough 😒

Someone says "if Rei or clare dies, I will cure your mother". He has canterella poison so he wasn't working alone.

Basically Rei started an arms race. The original was "incurable" so any speed was fine. Then rei cured it and now the empire is improving it. It's another major example of how Rei is changing things via her medling so she can't just predict the future anymore, which will be a growing theme in the story.

he got the poison and the ring to turn undead from his employer, so he wasn't supposed to survive, plus he only seeked for money (to buy the potion), there's no mention of the employer talking about curing his mother and even then, once dead he would have no garantee that the employer would pay and bring it to her

That last part yes. The other bits, I think were covered better in the LN, so it's just some adaptation wonk. The main point of the arc was showing clare the plight of the poor and that at least stayed in tact

Oh huh, I'd entirely forgotten it came up previously. That's some good intel, thanks.

Claire is such a good girl. Even better than Rei who was willing to just leave Luis and ya... ah well. A pity Luis never got to meet Claire sooner. Now I feel so bad for his mother. To paraphrase LotR "No parent should have to bury their child, no mothers should have to bury their sons." :(

Every time a story arc comes up someone says that this one was actually crap in the novel and later it gets better... I'm still waiting until it does, I think it's sadly mostly slowly going downhill from a relatively good start. I get what the story was trying to show with the sacrifice of that guy for the sake of his mother but as everything in this story, it feels like a complete overkill.

(I do understand the irony of still keeping up with this despite that after 30 chapters, don't worry :p )

For what it's worth every story arc was done better in the novel. I don't think any arc was bad in the novel since there was more space and effort taken to fill in the blanks and explain thoughts (obviously opinions will vary though). The manga is fun for me but if you've never read the novels and this doesn't do it for you, you might try them instead. From my memory, this arc for example had a lot more discussion about the situation and thoughts about why things are happening and what they mean etc.

I can understand being sad because your mom is dying from cancer
I can understand being bitter because there's a way to save your mom, but it's fucking expensive and no one is willing to help footing the bill
I can not fucking understand how do you conclude that glorious suicide to pay for mum's therapy is anywhere near sensible choice.
