Chapters 1-21 are about 100 pages in total, for most manga that would be 5 or 6 chaptersit could be a great plot pull if the author did that, like, in chapter 10 at most.
It’s honestly for a good reason. They expected one thing for the story, and heck the original premise, then they just piss all the goodwill with this crap. It's been awhile since I've seen this many people lose their shit over a manga.
Cheap = Bad?Sexual assault as a backstory is cheap drama bait 101.
The author did lay the groundwork. These people just refuse to see it.It’s honestly for a good reason. They expected one thing for the story, and heck the original premise, then they just piss all the goodwill with this crap.
With better writing this would have been avoided, since a good story lays the groundwork for a plot twist or a tonal change.
The characters names are light (Hikari), darkness (Yami) and evening (Yuu) and the author just confirmed this is the start of the "dark" chapter of the story, this was always the plan"It's a Little Late" would make a lot more sense with this in mind, since it was indeed already too late, his heart is taken.
It was indeed there. There were clues left throughout the story. I had to think about this a lot. If the author truly had this "Light/Dark/ Evening" 2 part series motif thing in mind the whole time, I think it's not bad. It's actually kind of interesting. But it still feels a bit jarring. I think I'd be a bit less annoyed if the manga wasn't named what it is. I'll stick with it to see where it goes. I still think Aya is a turbo B for even thinking of supporting Hikari and doing what she did lol. Also sugardaddy plot device is dumb af.The author did lay the groundwork. These people just refuse to see it.
Hey if you think the most overused storytelling trauma for women for hundreds of years, is some grand masterpiece of writing, all the more power to you.Cheap = Bad?
Yep, Maruto is the dude behind one of the most memorable scenes in WA2, the airport sceneHe made WA2?
Literally one of the biggest problems with the "last of us 2". I hope this and that game will be studied on how not to make readers sympathetic. Making characters do something to make them the absolute worst in the audience mind to only then try to immediately try to play for sympathy just doesn't work. And I don't know how writers got it in their head that it would. It's not the first time I've seen an author depict a character in a way that leaves the reader with no sympathy for them, only to reveal their backstory in the next chapter. I always wonder, isn't there a better narrative approach to this? Instead of waiting for the backstory to fix a character's lack of appeal, why not build sympathy earlier on?
After chapter 21, I feel no sympathy for Ayami, and to be honest, I don't even care about her backstory anymore. Her character feels so unlikable in chapter 21, and the sudden attempt to make her sympathetic feels forced.
Wouldn't it have been more effective to give Ayami more 'screen time' beforehand, so the reader could understand her better? By showing her struggles, motivations, or even some redeeming qualities early on, the author could have created a foundation for empathy, building a deeper connection between the reader and the character. It just feels like a missed opportunity when the emotional payoff comes too late, making it hard for me to care about Ayami, no matter what her backstory reveals.
Thanks for the chapter!
Thanks for the heads upJust sticking around to see Hikari and the rest of the friend group's reaction to this, which will probably take a while since this is back to a bi-weekly format. I just can't see how they can forgive Ayami for this. Guess she'll just go back to how she was before...
Unfortunately, the author mentioned that this is the second part, "The Dark Chapter" with Chapters 1 through 21 being "The Light Chapter". Guess this'll be a long wait, and it'll be time to drop it.
I'm happy about this and I hope the author does what he had in mind instead of simply pulling back cause of the backlash, there should be room for some experimentation in the medium, like let the guy cook. It's a personal project of the author, so there's no danger of it being axed.
Quickly dipped to a 7.88 with 128 one star ratings. Guess there are a lot of people who missed the previous update and are realizing what happened now.Oh boy backstory time.

I am giving it a chance before throwing a 3 on it, I will let the actual arc end. I mean, I have low hopes for it but the whole last chapter could be a bait.
