Also that fact that both of them were emotionally charged in chapter 21 wouldn't make sense if they broke up months' prior, instead of days, maybe weeks at the latest.
Eh, they're teenagers and it's their first relationship and it may have (probably) ended on unresolved terms. Seems like Aya's insecurity played a big part - like in this chapter she's trying to hold on through the relationship through sex and the like while Yuu (admittedly kinda halfheartedly) is like "let's do other things to get to know each other"

I'm assuming they broke up before chapter 16 b/c otherwise Yuu and Hikari's old friends assuming Yuu and Hikari are in a relationship would have been the time to say "I'm dating someone else"

I don't think that's the case. She is just happy to spend time like this with him. Her narration from the WN also tells that this is the happiest time of her life so far.

He was evasive about it in that chapter. Since he never told Hikari, why would he go and tell their friends in her presence?

I don't understand why nobody seems to get that this is going to be a story told from three different POVs. Hikari's POV was first, Ayami's POV is second (and it's NOT merely a side story, and it's NOT a reboot because the author got bored and wanted to change direction, and it's NOT filler), and presumably Yuu's POV will be next.

Sometimes I wonder if half the commentors in these discussion ever even read the manga, and if they did if they were just speed clicking.

Everything she knows is that Yuu is/was in love with a childhood friend who is now attending her school. And that the said childhood friend is good at studying and sports.
What she also knows from Yuu is that his love was unrequited and that the name of a person Hikari likes is Ta-kun (while she only knows him as Yuu).

I don't think that all of this would be enough to deduce that Yuu's crush was Hikari, since there are contradictions (at least from the information available to her).
You’re ignoring the excerpt from the novel I highlighted in my comment, where Ayami says, “At first, I asked all sorts of questions just to tease him. But now, I don't ask about her or about Yuu's feelings for her anymore.” As I mentioned to wrpd_mnd, the way the author has set this up feels problematic. Ayami says she asked all sorts of questions, but we don’t know which questions those were, which ones he answered, or which ones he avoided. Still, it’s clear that Ayami’s knowledge of Hikari goes beyond her excelling in academics, sports, and being a first-year (which in itself already reduces the number of candidates).

I like it, that's why I'm commenting. Also re-reading chapter one is extremely brutal since Hikari is already at her limit with using her back while the guy is so casual about it. This chapter pretty much explains why the male lead was so indifferent to all of her flirting and advancements.

This feels like a whole different genre. I like the drama at the moment (I like the early romcom stuff more) but it’s like there author wanted to write two separate stories and smooshed them together. Think they’ll have a hard time making it work to be honest.

As an aside did I miss something? About Ayami’s dad being scum and her mother just ‘watching’ :questionblob:

Yeah technically the OG FMC was never dating her love interest so it's not NTR but i mean you can't convince everyone otherwise lol
It's not even BSS because she DIDN'T love him first. Ayami did. Hikari just KNEW him first. Now Yuu DID love Hikari first but gave up on her when he failed to get into the same HS as her and she was as disinterested as always.

No NTR or even BSS at all.

It seems likely to me that Hikari only noticed Yuu as a love interest after Yuu change due to his relationship with Ayami.

I didn't ignore it, I just think that asking doesn't mean him answering. Seeing how Yuu evaded the question in this chapter, I'd assume he was doing more or less the same before. And it'd be more or less the right thing to do - to not upset his new girlfriend and to not reveal too much on Hikari to not cause any unnecessary conflicts (well, that backfired).

Still, it’s clear that Ayami’s knowledge of Hikari goes beyond her excelling in academics, sports, and being a first-year.
To me it's not clear at all. Most of what Yami knows about Yuu's crush was most likely told that night in the hotel. Since they became a couple afterwards, I think it's more than likely that Yuu was trying to avoid talking about it as much as he could.

Hell yeah, that's what I like to see. Ayami is trying to be the best version of herself. That's the love I like. Peak as always.
My theory is that when she returns to school and meet Hikari, Ayami will think she is a better person or some crap like that, and that she (Ayami) doesn't deserve to be Yuu's girlfriend (she could not forgive herself for trying to use him when they first met), so she will think that Yuu would be happier with Hikari, and will break up with him, but was obviously still in love

Yoo the girl with twintails in the cover is cute. When is she going to be introduced?
She’s not part of the plot, the author didn’t actually mean to add them to the story I think. Ignore the first few chapters of the manga, that was from a spinoff story.

Just the entire reason that Ayami is the way she is and why she attempted whoring herself out compensated dating. Reread the first couple of chapters of this arc.

At this point, some people read the manga just to rant about it in the comments lmao.
Here in Mangadex, readers are trully overhating the manga. I've read it in another page (in spanish) and most of the comments are loving it (of course, some people don't like it, that's fine). I seriously dan't see what's THAT bad, sure, I don't like certain things, but people are just hating it for the sake of it

I just notice the parallel/contrast between the title of this chapter and chapter 18. (It appears that the Ch 26 title has either a missing word after "of" or the it needs removed.)

Ch 18: The Day Where Nothing Happened With Two People Where Something Might Have Happened
Ch 26: A Day Where Nothing Happened With Two People Where A Lot of Has Happened

Yeah, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I think the Yami fans are going to be disappointed on where this is going. They obviously broke up for a reason, going to separate schools is not a means for a breakup. Yami is also showing signs of being very possessive and needy, not saying it's a bad thing but it will most likely strain their relationship and now she's forcing herself again on him at the school festival.

Once again, if this was setup properly with more robust manga chapters I think we have a winner of a story. And to be honest I think they know that too which is why we are actually getting 8+ pages of chapter at release now. But the initial story and setup really hurt this story.

That's not mutually exclusive, especially when she thinks the only thing she can offer him/only way she can compete w/ Hikari is on the physical stuff.

why would he go and tell their friends in her presence?
Because they think he's dating Hikari, which going by where the chapter ends, he leaves them w/ that misunderstanding. If he was dating Aya at the time, it'd be majorly uncool /wouldn't make sense to let his friends think he was dating someone else.

I mean this couple got more dynamic and story building than the MFC, plus Yami is not so bad tho.

Why do you think she does though? In this chapter they are doing literally the same thing as Yuu did with Hikari, except they are also intimate.

To be clear, I also think they already broke up by that chapter. But I don't think Yuu would come clear with that anyway even if he was still dating Yami. If Hikari doesn't deny it, he wouldn't want to broach the subject because it would lead to questions he wants to avoid.
