Oh god it’s not over for her yet?!

Least we get Hikari back, love a good reminder that Yami will continue to be a horrible person when she befriends and later absolutely betrays her.

I’m really starting to think a childhood friend killed this author’s parents or something with the way they seem to relish Hikari’s eventual destruction.

At this point I kind of just want everything to end with Yami completely isolated and alone because she refuses to become a better person. I also want Hikari to find happiness even if not with Yuu, like if this manga doesn’t end with her in an explicitly happy and loving relationship I think I might need to fist fight have words with the author.
Bro take a chill all this nigga just kids we all know kids are just little grelims who haven't grown up yet just trying to best as well

The relationship happened before Yami knew Hikari so there isn't really a stabbing going on here. The worst thing that happened was that she didn't tell Hikari immediately once she connected the dots but it's not really a malicious action.
Bro she kisses him, after months of knowing that Hikari is in love with him. That’s the betrayal.

I can and in fact have defended a lot of flawed characters in the past. Yami is just superbly annoying since not only is she incredibly toxic in universe, she also is the catalyst for the most grueling and frustrating arc in this whole manga in a meta sense. Like cutting to her POV has been annoying basically since it started, and it’s done nothing but dragged on at the expense of the previous arc, which mind you never actually finished at all.

So while I could rationalize but not forgive her behavior in text, she’s also pissed me off in a meta sense. I basically double hate her.

Frankly I’m half expecting a character assassination at this point. Like the author suddenly decides to make her secretly a huge bitch or something just so it’s “justified” that she kisses Yuu
Nah! She's at her lowest and on the verge of quitting school, but in previous chapters she's inviting Hikari and friends for a little party where they watch fireworks. Something happened between the two to a point where they became close friends.

I believe the kiss was a impromptu thing. Hikari, like Yuu, had a hand in giving her a sense of normalcy after her parents divorce. No way she'd kiss Yuu to be malicious.

We’ll see, my faith in this author ran out a while ago.

Oh shit, I forgot about that lmao. Yeah that was a bad move on Yami's part but I don't think it rises to her being the devil.
Shows you how long this flashbacks been going. But I don’t think “bad move” really describes it. Yami hid her past relationship with Yuu from her, and kisses him again behind her back after having the gaul to ghost him in the first place. All this to the person she considers her best friend who seemingly pulled her out of her depression and became a pillar of support for her. She’s really like, not a good person and she has shown a completely unwillingness to be better.

By the time Yami found out, she was in too deep to tell Hikari about it. And she didn't want to break Hikari's romantic fantasy with Yuu. So, she kept quiet about and supported her, by giving her money and tickets to her dates. Let's not forget that it was Yuu who cornered Yami, after she tried to hide away and not see him. Really, we need to know what happened between the two that cause the kiss.

Nah dude that’s EXACTLY the time for a heart to heart. Instead she hid shit because she’s a coward and possibly because she knew the chance to see him again would arise if she pushed the two together. I mean come on is she just going to conveniently never meet her “best friend’s” boyfriend for the rest of her life? Plus we have no evidence that he corner her considering he didn’t even want to go until Hikari pressured him.

There is no evidence that Yuu cornered Yami. Yuu was hesitant to accept Hikari's invitation, ultimately accepting only because she was upset with him. Yami, on her part, attempted to avoid Yuu. As both were trying to avoid each other, their encounter most likely occurred by accident.

I agree if she was malicious about it I would hate her but the way I see it, Yami's kiss was a rash decision and not a deliberate attempt to hurt Hikari. It still sucks for HIkari but I don't think the series ever intended for Yami to be a villain as much as a tragic character.
