I hope that's the case. Because I've seen quite a few Manga that seemed interesting but was basically unreadable due to how bad the translation was and no one else ever picked it up. It happens a lot on Novel Updates with the most egregious example I can think of being Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic. The following is from my Novel Updates review on the first translator's quality:I feel like most decent quality groups don't count lazy MTL trash as being worth the consideration for the 'no sniping' rule. Unless the translator talks about being a beginner and trying to learn, almost nobody has respect enough for garbage tier MTL to worry about the ethics of sniping them.
Many chapters have the Lingle Kingdom as Linkle, Rinkle, or Ringle all in the same chapter. The character Arc/Ark causes the blatant Ctrl+F replacement of "Alk" to "Arc" to make every single mention of the words "talk", "talking", and "talked" to become "tarc", "Tarcing", and "tarced". The other major complaint about the quality of the translation is the complete and utter lack of interest in the gender of who is speaking. Even when the speaker is clearly Usato (male) the pronoun constantly swaps between him/he/his and her/she/hers making any form of following many conversations impossible.
And he translated over 200 chapters like this and while some were better than others, most chapters had the above issues everywhere. It was a great story and had a large following but no one stepped up to do a better job until the OT shut down, at which point a new site who is not much better and is basically Google Translate with minor editing took over. With the original site down, the first 214 chapters aren't even available and it's been a year and a half with no one picking it up.
Regarding just Manga though, I've also seen plenty popular/promising Manga be dead for 3+ years. I get that people only want to work on what's interesting to them, it's just sad that so many great works are either only worked on by people doing the bare minimum, or aren't being worked on at all.
