I definitely can't say to what degree. Michio does know, iirc, that some of his insecurities are rooted in his many various issues. The few he somewhat acknowledges.

I too wonder just how intentional it is. Given just how flat the other characters are, I don't think any deep thought was given to who Michio is. I could be wrong though. Maybe the author just writes Michio naturally and doesn't have to think about it and they aren't interested in exploring other people or the setting or relationships.

I might just be giving the author too much credit but it could also be because if its written trhough Michio's eyes, they have 2D personalities because Michio doesn't have it in him to notice the other facets that would give those characters depth and thus its not conveyed to us the readers in turn

He was searching. Looking up ways to commit suicide. Nothing confirmed, just wanted to end it all but too scared/cowardly to be alone to do it. He was also afraid of fucking it up or it being too painful. He wanted an escape from his life. He was constantly bullied and abused at school, first physically and after that no longer worked was socially isolated. During what appears to be middle school his mother died his father physically abused him as well. So while he was searching his suicide sites the game guided him to making his selections.

And the game offered a new life, but he didn't necessarily believe it at first. He's also the sort of person to reroll until he gets nearly perfect stats. Also note that this is why he has issues, since he didn't modify the language settings so that the common language was Brahim.

Michio's only slightly changed over time. But the core of his character can easily be seen in how he really has no trust in people, because of his past. He distrusts humans and others. He is also a horny bastard.

Side note: I definitely dislike the official translation of the Prologue in English. It feels dated immediately, though I have no idea how true that is of the original Japanese.

I’m going to rant a bit but I’ve had this thought for a quite a while and I want to get it out of my system so please bear with me for a moment.

Michio is one of the few characters that I would say has legitimate deep psychological problems, not just "edginess". I'm not going to claim that he is a great well written character, but he's certainly interesting to me.

I think Michio has a very extreme case of dismissive avoidant attachment or something similar. His paranoia is bottomless, when he's not fantasizing about boobs or trying to figure out how exactly his jobs/skills work, he's constantly panicking at the idea of how people are seeing him and not just strangers, but his slaves too.

The reason why he's buying slaves is that it's literally the only option for him. He NEEDS complete control over someone in order to trust them at all. And even as magic bound slaves he can barely trust them, he still tries to manipulate them in getting their “consent” (even though he technically already has it since they are his fucking sex slaves) because at his core he can't fathom someone being truly interested in him, and he only lets down his defenses and kind of tries and connect with them because they are under a slight obligation to do so. He’s a very broken person, and even with his cheats he remains broken.

Roxanne is literally willing to give her life, but even that is not enough for him, he still refuses to let her and Sherry know almost anything about how his cheats works (and thus maintaining complete control) even though he could do so much better in the dungeon if he trusted them more, especially with Sherry's help. Unlike Roxanne who is kind of an obedient meathead, Sherry is quite perceptive and keeps noticing his cheats, in some case figuring out what they do just by looking at him, but every time she asks him how they work he quickly dismisses her or changes the argument without even coming up with an excuse, leaving her confused and bewildered, wondering how this weird guy can pull off such insane advanced stuff yet lacks basic knowledge everyone in that world knows. If only he at least had the decency to come up with some bullshit excuse if he doesn’t want to reveal that he is from another world.

To add to this because the people he's relying on are "his slaves" it also helps him perform the mental gymnastics to continue to believe he is on his own.

Now I’m not sure how much of this was intentional on the author’s part. Maybe I’m just reading too much in this silly wish fulfillment isekai slop (which I enjoy by the way). Just a thought I wanted to share.

The part that really stuck out to me about what you said about how he “couldn’t fathom someone being truly interested in him”

I have absolutely zero doubt that Roxanne actually 100% unconditionally loves Michio. I think that if Michio were to free her, she would still choose to stay by his side for the rest of her life (even though she’d be very upset about being freed).

To me, this is probably the most painful part about their dynamic. They both clearly hold each other very dearly (most noticeably during their town date), but Michio’s near-complete inability to fully trust someone is a major roadblock to their relationship actually progressing.

On page 6 he says he is pathetic for relying on Roxanne yet again, we can really see his personality here... There is nothing pathetic for needing help with something you have no idea how to do, in this case speak a completely different language.

There is probably a job he could get from trying to speak the language. Not even trying to learn any words. Pathetic.

The last couple novel releases have been slow as well: 11 to 12 took two years (2020 to 2022) and 12 to 13 took 2 years (2022 to 2024) we should be due a new chapter and we'll probably get a influx of chapters like we did in '24/'25.

I dunno the web novel kinda gives them some depth like [Web Novel Spoiler]Vesta planning to escape for the Temple of Stella or poor Rutina who gets outright gutted in the Light Novel compared to her prideful nature in the web novel

This is actually one thing I understand firstly if someone had cheat abilities in our world and tried to help the downtrodden, sick. or poor, we'd probably crucify him! but seriously take a look at his abilities and he could upset the political realm simply by existing so it's good to keep a low profile.

Secondly this may be a case of adaption distillation in the novels Sherry is very set in her ways and it takes a lot to convince her of things. She scoffs at the world being spherical for example because someone told her some BS when she was young so it may be more trouble than it's worth to explain it to her but honestly the main reason why the author avoids it is probably because having Sherry able to craft legendary weaponry too soon would break pacing which is already very tough to justify.

This bath situation with Miria is feeling slimy now IMO. I know he's young but he should just let her get comfortable with the idea of sex before forcing her. I wish he would've done the same with Roxanne and Sherry but he didn't. Luckily now it isn't an issue with those 2
