And MC already did warn her about a shapeshifter with alignment masking. So dumb. Just make some conversation, drop in "somebody well known to both of them", who doesn't even exist. Normally he would have no way to tell the difference and have go with it. Maybe that book of his might interfere, but she didn't even try anything. She's not suited for this line of work, not even as a paladin.

Or maybe...just maybe... (this might be a spoiler, if I'm guessing right) She did conseal the existance of MC, as the one who adviced (pushed) her to change class and religion, and was relieved when Mr.Badguy seemingly bought it. If she did all of that to find the hideout and the bardgirl, I have to apologize to the author.

So, same plan as the hobbit, then: follow the bad guy alone to a deserted area. I'm not sure it's really better than "too dumb to suspect a shapeshifter when she knows there's one around".

If the MC wasn't held back by his 1HP stat, he would be far better off operating alone than with these morons.
