Kanojo, Okarishimasu - Vol. 7 Ch. 53 - The Girlfriend and her Dream 4

I actually like the way the story has been heading this past few chapters, its quality clearly improves when it's just focused on Mizuhara and MC.

That said, after this chapter I think I finally found the root of all evil in this manga: Mizuhara, or rather, how much of a Mizuhara shipper the author is (I don't know if that's the correct term considering he has control over the relationships in the story, putting him above a "mere" shipper).

The author spends page after page jerking Mizuhara off and showing her as this cute, intelligent, capable, sweet, understanding, motivated and nearly perfect goddess that can do no wrong (even when she fails, it's just used to show how hard-wording and dedicated she is and how much she wants to be an actress and her "nasty" side is meant to make us see her as a "real" girl). Not only that, but since apparently he can't write a proper romance, he has the MC act like a total idiot who is dangerously obsessed with Mizuhara all the time so he can force them to develop a relationship, which causes him to do the stupid an cringey shit most of us complain about. This also affects his relationship with all the other characters in the manga, who are shown as flawed and tend to be treated like shit by MC or ignored, either because the author wants to make sure MC doesn't even get close to having some sort of chemistry with the other girls or because he is clearly not interested on properly developing any other character than Mizuhara.

To me, it seems the author was trying to write a compelling love story between MC and Mizuhara but commited the same sin many other authors are guilty of (I'm looking at you, Infinite Stratos's author) and allowed his obsession with the main girl to shit up the story.

Idk if ppl care enough about Ruka to hate her, but I kinda understand why some don't want to see her here. Ruka is a choroin. That's the farthest you can get from an actual human, btw. While choroins (often multiple) are staples in fantasy/isekai/supernatural series, they generally are not created for non-fantasy stories like this one. Seeing her in a story like this is unrealistic and thus offputting. She'd be completely in place within a fantasy harem though, and maybe even popular w/ readers just b/c of her design.

Dude I'm 38 and have been married for 6 years. As a matter of fact i have never been a 'weeb virgin' because I'd already lost my virginity long before I saw my first anime, which was on Toonami when I went to college in 1998. Dragonball Z, huzzah!

However, I have been that dumbass beta orbiter who was used as a pretty girl's emotional support blanket while she went around and dated other guys and then complained to me about how unhappy she was, all the while I was too afraid to tell her how I felt for fear it'd ruin "our relationship" if she turned me down. It was truly time of cringe. It's that experience though , almost 20 years ago, that showed me how much of an idiot I was being and I am doing my very goddamn best to help my weeb friends here NOT fall into the same idiocy that I did in my youth.

Yeah, the third scenario listed is the one that described what happened to me.

Like, she was engaged when I met her - so I didn't really get emotionally invested at first... then a couple months later, she broke up with him. And the reason she gave was, and I fuckin quote, "I have more fun with you and like spending time with you more, and feel I shouldn't be having more fun with someone that isn't my fiance, so I knew he wasn't right for me."

We spent pretty much every day together, at least 4-5 hours a day. If I sat down on the couch, she would sit next to me or on my lap. We would hang out with her family. We would cuddle. If she heard a bump in the night, she would call me and I'd come over. She loved getting long massages from me. It was everything that an actual dating relationship would be, except, without, you know, the kissing and sex.

So yeah, I fall hard for this girl. I mean so hard. And for some reason her whole family was also under the impression that she and I were dating, because they, like me, were shocked when she suddenly announced that she'd started dating a new guy. And of course, as her best friend, she wanted to tell me ALL ABOUT HIM.

It was the last straw for me. I was completely crushed. I took some time to really think about what I was doing with myself. I went on a weeklong fast, and finally the answer came to me.

I called her up and had her meet me, and I told her that I was breaking off our friendship. That I had realized I was in love with her, and that I didn't think she felt the same about me. She agreed, that she only wanted to be friends. So I told her that wasn't good enough for me anymore and said that I needed some time apart from her. It was more than two years before I spoke to her again, because that's how long it took me to get over her. Like for two fucking years I still couldn't think of anyone but her.

So yeah kids, don't fucking be like I was.

@seekermoc Pretty sure if the dude had a shit ton of money, the action wouldn't have been nearly as thoughtful. It's his intentions that count here, he's saying if she's unwilling to reach for a dream because she's worried about failing and rather go for economic stability, he's willing to work to help her reach that dream.

Not saying it's not dumb but if he was rich, this scene would mean nothing.

@LysandersTreason Don't worry man, just memeing. Not like every person who reads manga is a 20-year old who lives in his mother's basement, but it is funny to pretend it is that way.

Yeah, I'm not really arguing about the MC, I've hated him this entire time. Dude is a beta all the way into his soul. But the author KNOWS when he's writing the character as just beta trash and when he means to make him more redeemable. Notice that this entire "renting you out for weeks" scene was played out from the FMC's perspective rather than the MC's, like it usually is. This is supposed to be one of the first times he's not doing something solely for himself.
I just don't think people are giving the author enough credit.

I''s got me into this genre. Ichigo %100 was the first on-going title I've read on a weekly basis from Ch1 to the end.
With that said, I gotta say this is pretty good.
Much better than any crap you kids might suggest is better.
