writing fell off a cliff ever since they decided to keep going past the novel's content
wonder if it's even worth to keep reading this
Yeah absolutely. They had surveillance drones....so what, was the enemy using stealth tech? I find it a dumb plot that they just sneak up on the city with high tech weapons, what a bullshit. Again....they have surveillance drones...ffs this is just stupid and really pisses me off big time... yeah and dropped 😑 fuck this shit I'm out 😡🖕

I'd like to remind everyone all this takes place in a monster-infested forest.
These guys managed to get their seige weapons through an uncleared forest that's so full of ogres Alan became rich hunting them by the hundreds.

I'm still with it, the author needed to raise the stakes somehow, but I think the sparse releases make this feel more painful than necessary.

Also y'all can miss me with excuses for Alan. In the novel he has way more stamina than the average soldier and only military personnel get Nanoms so he had to have some training. I believe he was even in a war zone before this, though it was mentioned for one sentence.
If this future society doesn't have Basic Training I don't know what to tell you.

This, mf is a fucking engineer solider not just bog standard engineer. and at start he do so many thing that make FMC think he was a really strong person, the reason they put their base in monster forest is to keep it hidden and well protect. Vilian fucking skip about 3 nation to appear their in 1 chapter? bullshit we took about 40 fucking chapter on how hard it is to travel there with all the people, and enemy king just waltz in there?

This could have all been done well, but for some reason we are rushing headlong into a... climax? I hesitate to call it that since I'm feeling zero tension while reading it. All the thing going on are plausible within the story, but they were introduced rapidly with next to no build up so I haven't really gotten invested in any of it. I wonder what the rush is?:thonk:

Of course Alan gets bodied when up against an actual combat soldier of an equivalent tech level, since he’s a chuuni maintenance technician who was blowing through the locals while depending on hot-keyed macros. He even admitted to being just a chuuni back in Chapter 3.

ehh really? after like years I pretty much forget he is not really combatant.
the only thing I can scrap from my memory is that he really is getting carried by nanom.

Because this was all a trap. MC side lured the enemy into their defensive perimeter. Once the enemy reached the second gate, which was right in the middle of the monster forest, Iris changing the mode of monster repellent devices from "repel monsters" to "call monsters". Next? Massacre. Iris didn't even need to fire the big guns she had installed on the gate.

Alan being captured was the mysterious girl's plan to have the enemy troops attack Alan's fortress (if Alan failed to be captured, the attack will be canceled). She had already calculated that enemy troops would not be able to penetrate Alan's fortress, and the fortress defense system will destroy them. In addition, Alan could capture Bertha's king, because he was held near the palace.

How far behind are we?
5 chapters.

Yeah, just reread the first three chapters.
Yes, Alan was a soldier, but he was a technical officer (and kind of a shrimp when compared with the other person in his unit).
He had basic training, and that included combat training against holograms, but depended on nanom for aiming his pulse rifle, and said that he hadn't picked up a real sword until he came to this planet; all of his swordsmanship is just macros that nanom activates from VR games and basic Imperial Military training. In Chapter 28, he says that the Twins are better than him at CQC.
And one final thing that I had forgotten about, was that Alan's emergency promotion to Captain included command flash memory training, which he called essentially brainwashing so that he can't turn against the Empire or its regulations. So some of Alan's lapses might have been due to that.

Haven't read this in a while so I'm going off memory.

But I think the problem with the new girl is that her existence doesn't make sense.

Alan's achievements in this world as a combatant alone was enough to bring a lot of attention to himself.

So when you bring up a character that could easily beat Alan that was never even mentioned before, it feels off.
As in this girl's abilities would be the talk of the country even if they tried to hide it.

If a score of 100(Alan) is the talk of the town, then why is the person who beat that score unheard of?

As it currently stands, she seems like she was just poofed into existence because the author needed a "Alan gets captured" on the spot without building up for it.

So Alan really became the spy's pawn. If she's more powerful and cunning, she should lead this empire instead and let Alan go back to engineering stuff :thonk:
