Something I always wondered about now that I can see the actual kanji/chinese characters for their names, is why some names are latinized as mandarin (gao shun, mao mao, mei mei, etc) and the rest as onyomi (rihaku, sui ren, etc).

Given the setting is imperial China (Beijing during the Qing dynasty), I guess the mandarin ones would be most 'authentic', but having a mix of both always seemed odd to me.

I really like how MaoMao's willful ignorance of the greater plot around her doesn't stall progression. It adds this air of suspense for the audience as we see from the perspective of Gao Shun that events are already in motion that will likely place Jinshi in danger and, subsequently, draw MaoMao into the thick of things despite her best efforts.

Acktually bezoars aren’t testicles, they’re stones which are found in an animal’s gut when they eat an indigestible object, sort of like how a pearl is when an irritant gets inside an oyster and it just builds material around it 🤓🤓🤓

Yeah, thinking about it… why is that the case? It’s like if Kingdom had Ri Shin and He Liao Diao alongside Ei Sei and Kyo Kai. It doesn’t make sense.
