It's impressive the lack of self-awareness from Hyme's royal family. MC's country is much more developed and have at least 10 times the military strength in comparison, yet Hyme is still intent on picking fights as if they somehow have the advantage. In fact MC alone could decimate them.

tbh I expected a bit more progress in this chapter.

I think there was just the right amount of progress.

We got to see Ain and Claune together by themselves, get all cute and lovey-dovey, and then almost kiss.

We got to see the 2 sides talking about matters and while they could have gone longer I think they had the right amount so that us as readers don't get overloaded with politics or power talks.

I feel like Claune's mother is going to throw some sort of wrench in the gears here, but at the same time it seems like she realizes how nice of a person Ain is after he helped her while she was looking for an inn that time. It is also telling that when she walked away she was smiling at Claune.

Why not ask if you already know? Is it better to hide things from your partner?

He should have no problems declaring that.

Most worried about her handwriting. Priorities are sometimes not logical. Only sometimes.

Arriving later is a power move.

"Is that not a tad excessive?"
Nope. Entirely deserved.

They're building it up as some advanced political conference, but that doesn't really work when one side consists mainly of idiots.

this is so painfully reworded with chatgpt lol

like maybe tell it to not make everyone sounds like ye olde english chancellor and customize each dialogue bubble with their character. but ofc that's gonna take longer than simply... translating it outright

The fuck? Why do they even spare time for Hyme? Ishtalica and Hyme had a pact that was broken by the Hyme side, not to mention how they treated a Princess from their "allied" nation.
The military, economical and political power discrepancy is so big that there shouldn't be even a meeting there, not to mention one where Hyme side could talk so freely in presence of other side King. Like a talk between Kings would be understandable but some randoms talking from either side freely is strange. Oh well, it's not the first nor last isekai that doesn't understand that.

some spoilers tho idk what they'll do in the manga
but generally

some chatter, then they almost get cornered, then to defend the poor haim country filled with dipshits, claune's mom tells about the people the first prince illegally kidnapped and smuggled from ishtalika to haim, the prince gets mad, also some beasts attack the port after the meeting and ain gets to show off
i listed the stuff that stood out to me on top of my head so its still pretty vague

why is this big powerful technologically advanced empire letting this random little kingdom act like this?
Maybe to build up a morally superior position for the eventual war, invasion, and occupation?
Because a quick and decisive war is easy if one’s nation is so much stronger, militarily, but getting a buy-in from one’s own populace and the surrounding nations for annexation and occupation is more difficult and takes longer.

We did see how the nobles of Ishtalica held some animosity towards Hyme due to the latter’s treatment of the Ishtalican princess and Ain, but then Ain went ahead and defused that because he didn’t want Claune to be socially ostracized. So now he needs to build up that hostility and desire to crush Hyme again, while carving out exceptions for Claune and her grandfather as “the only good Hyme nobles”.

In Hyme's previous negotiation with Ishtalica they got a hold of their princess because at the time Ishtalica was in a position of weakness. Unless they believe that this situation has changed, it makes sense that they would act as if they still hold the cards in this negotiation. In fact, the very reason this meeting was called was precisely because the prince sent a letter with various unacceptable terms, so their behaviour in this meeting is in line with that letter.

When they responded to that letter, they demonstrated to Elena that Ishtalica had more information on the happenings in Hyme than Hyme themselves had (Elena's maid was literally a spy for Ishtalica), while Elena commented that they themselves didn't have such information on Ishtalica and the prince had to bribe his way to send a letter through another country. So yeah, they don't have the spying capabilities to determine the true military might of Ishtalica, and so Hyme's royalty is completely unaware of the true balance of power.

What they do know is that all of Ishtalica's technology runs on resources provided by Hyme. In case of a conflict, they could expect to severely cripple Ishtalica by denying access to these resources and this would eventually even out the playing field.

Of course, there's no wisdom in acting as arrogantly as they are, but it's not really surprising.

Still, this meeting was a bit absurd. They basically cut it short only after a few minutes of exchanges. We'll have to see what Elena's plan is which required letting Hyme's royalty make a poor impression in the first meeting.
