there's multiple possible explanation for that.
- maybe he's a shitty sadistic examiner that just wants to beat up kids for kicks, though the first half of his provocation sounds too sincere for that
- maybe nervousness and impatience got to mc and he didn't perform as good as back then, mc did say that he needs to calm down after all
- maybe the examiner wants to test his endurance and persistence, it's still only the first clash after all, and no one wants to accept someone that immediately ran away crying the moment they got hit once
- maybe the examiner wants to test him against mental attack, like, maybe he's actually ready to stop the test and pass the mc if mc doesn't actually falls to his cheap provocation and keep his calm
- maybe the bit about 'only good 'cause of his stats' is right. maybe the examiner have seen way too many kids with extraordinary stats due to their innate skill, but can't realizes their potential due to arrogance or something, and they all break down and dropped out early in the military training regiment

He stopped it after the place got trashed and he got beaten up, probably then after getting himself smacked around calmed him down enough to think about ending the dumb test.

the examiner still took the l like a champ, and properly acknowledge mc skill, that's a plus in my book
i still say that after mc activates his skill, things just got too hectic and he doesn't get the chance to properly declare that the test has completed tho
not like you can just simply say that the test is over and hoping that arm lunging to your back, controlled by someone that falls to your cheap provocation, would immediately stop

That's part of the problem. Regardless of MC performing worst than usual or not, it was shown that MC held his ground against him. We're talking about a >10 years old kid against an experienced adult professional, and adding to that the other kids ended their tests face flat on the ground.

Yes, the examiner acknowledged MC, that's not the issue. The issue is the bar set for gaining that acknowledgement. Again, it's a school for kids, but the examiner is demanding from kids trained adult levels of physical/mental capabilities. That's just not how it works, I'd be surprise if they even have 10 students in each intake with such an entrance exam.

If the examiner was shocked and the battle happened immediately, yeah, I'd agree with you. But it didn't, the examiner had plenty of time to continue his insults to egg MC on.

Also, nothing to do with any of this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that MC's going to meet some dumb snobbish student or something in school (cliché), then you wonder how people like those managed to get in.

well, specifically, we're talking about a test in a world where status exist, and status-boosting skill that you get simply from being born exist
in a world like that, kids with better stats than adults since he got some skill like paladin or something would not be such a rare occurrence
and it's also wouldn't be a rare occurrence that kids like that turns out to be brats unsuited for military discipline
kinda connected with that pieces of "advice" the examiner gives about stats without technique, his bad impression at that point can still be somewhat justified

well, connected to above, since mc actually displays power through a somewhat extraordinary skills, it's possible that the bar for mental capabilities actually get higher for mc
since, something like great power mishandled is way more dangerous than mediocre power mishandled
maybe the bar a bit lower for normal kids
then again, all the other kids shown taking the test actually get disqualified, so eh

his only chance, other than the last that he took, is right before mc powering up his arm, though it can be justified by him just waiting to see whether mc wants to break through his losing position
as in, even though mc technically already passed in his eye, he's letting mc continue on his effort to beat him since persistence is a virtue and all, and he judged that using the skill doesn't really takes some extraordinary toll on mc
this is supported by the observation that after the initial clash with the extra-armed mc, the examiner didn't initiates an attack anymore, like he's already done judging

probs because the other examiner isn't as crazy "strict" as this particular examiner
