@Korvalus engines usually double as power as well, so that'd mean a loss of life support and everything else.

Even if that wasn't the case, imagine you're in a situation where you're doing battle, trying not to get blown to debris, and all of a sudden your ship just completely stops responding to you, and is racing along at max speed, how level headed are you going to be in that case?

They are mercenaries from all ranks possible, im more surprised that a bunch didnt go rouge or run. Mercs on this world are kinda respectable i guess.

On other note, using termals (aka IR) on space seems not optimal too, i mean, some debrits probably are also hot af and they are in space so it will take some time for it to lose heat.
Probably would be best a combination of sensors ( IR, moviment and proximity sensors, light sensors, etc). and enven if you need better processing speed i think there are better ways than IR.
