That isn't just AI... Flesh and blood humans can and will do the same. Purely reward or punishment as a reward alike, humans will adjust their behavior to get the maximum reward for the least effort/work (i.e. suboptimal for others). It isn't an absolute nor a constant, but it certainly happens...This is one of those real-world problems with AI: if you don't specify a reward function well enough, the AI can start performing in "suboptimal" ways because it's just maximizing its reward.
She might be built to serve him, but if that service includes a submissive personality that enjoys punishment, then look out for when the service starts being done in ways meant specifically to elicit punishment from you, because you're gonna start getting some bad service.
On the other hand, the fact that his ship is unique comes with its own downsides. If it gets damaged in a fight, or even if something breaks down from regular use, he won't be able to get it repaired properly if nobody thoroughly analyzed it when it was operational.Isn't it a big minus to give the info of your OP spaceship to a manufacturer?
