I knew the sister had her own ghost/demon thing. Her's is really freaky though while Michiru's has grown on me. I like that thanks to her tentacles Miko is the only one who understands her, noticing when she's angry or feeling down. I wonder when we'll see what messed Michiru and You up that they have these spirits and act like this.

Where have you been? The series has always been slow build. The Shrine arc starts at chapter 11 and doesn't finish until chapter 39. That's 29 chapters.

Michiru started at end of 39, and it's now ch 51 -- that's only 12 chapters (not counting 39, since she only appears at the end)
That’s really not fair to call that whole span a single arc, though. It's not like they were dealing with shrine stuff every chapter between 11 and 39.
This series has actually been following a pretty tight pattern, you know. Miko meets a creepy new person and initially sees them as an antagonistic force, but eventually comes to understand them and helps them get over their ghost-related personal issues. The first major arc was Zen, which ran from 16 to 23 (7 chapters), then the Romm arc ran from 24 to 39 (15 chapters). She’s spent 12 with Michiru so far, and I have my doubts about whether she's fixing her anytime soon.

Thank you for the translation! Also mad props to Julia, she's pretty clever to have picked up on that.

I'm willing to bet the dad could see ghosts too, and that he's staying because he was always worried about one of his kids inheriting it. That also explains why he says things like in this chapter so plainly and helpfully, just in case they can hear him while also making sure they don't directly acknowledge him since getting too comfortable doing that could endanger them, and why he's so oddly comfortable with that other ghost. I'd expect it would come in the form of a generational curse though, since it seems like it only started shortly after her father died and may have passed on to her because of that.

Also the shrine wasn't everpresent.
It was very much in the background, still there, but only the focus when it needed to be.
What the "But shrine" people have wrong is that the entire shrine superarc wasn't the shrine being completely everpresent in the story. Sure, it itself ultimately wasn't the deepest antagonist, but it at least had the decency to evoke dread by not being there and actually having an active mystery.

I have yet to be disappointed by a single chapter in this series, even the slow ones are a delightful read.

And this one ends with quite the twist.

What I gathered from this chapter is that Michiru is also an orphan, which can go a long way towards explaining the sister's smothering obsession with her. And I would be surprised if that trauma didn't have anything to do with these monstrous entities.

My personal take is that what we see towards the end is a manifestation of the older sister's obsession and that Michiru's head tentacles act as a sort of self-defense against that entity.

I feel like Michiru sister isn’t bad, but tries to prevent people getting hurt by Michiru. Just a hunch.

probably the ghost just saw michiru's sister saying all that and saw it worked(somebody responded opening the door) so he tried to do the same thing. wich make me think how fuckedup this is. like imagine miko is in her room minding her business and her mother calls her. Them she answers... but it was a ghost.
That is terrifying at so many levels.

However it would be too inconvenient for the story as it would make everything 10 times more dangerous for poor Miko than it is already.

No, I think what we saw at the end is directly related to Michiru's older sister in some yet unexplained way.
