Why does it seem like the MC is better than the 'hero' in everything, including strength? Why exactly would the MC have tolerated being treated poorly? Why did they even team up with others when it seems like the spirits were happy to follow the MC as he was and act on his behalf?
And why would the spirits have tolerated the MC being treated poorly? It's like they're only discovering the poor treatment of the MC only now as well - like why didn't the magic tools all blowup and sabotage that guy earlier?
If it's meant to be seen as a parody of the entire 'abused protag' genre, as suggested above, then I get it, though I think the attempt to appear as a parody falls flat because it not quite on the nose enough. This really does seem like what a legitimate attempt at the set-up would be, and it's kind of a sad indictment of it, if a story parodying it can be misconstrued as a legitimate attempt.
