The situation is different.

The 1st case was like if someone murdered your loved ones and replaced them with androids with copies of their memories to help them 'pretend' they're the real ones.

Here it sounds more like a Schrödinger's Cat situation, where the priestess is technically still alive but also technically dead. She's still 'herself', it's just that she's afflicted by a curse.

Did some people really read the dragon priestess already dead phrase literally? To me its more like she realize she'll die to the curse if she fails while also knew the job are way above her abilities, so basically she were sent to die, hence the already dead phrase.
