Just up through 63 I was thinking that Harold had found a way to hold off on directly influencing the story any more, but that looks like something the story has decided is simply not possible.

I forgot about the meta aspect, his decision making makes more sense with that being bought up. I wonder what the original trail of events was in the game, I can't help but feel that Justus' influence is what pushed him to have to serve him. That and taking himself off the board for a bit to keep the main villain in check and a bit more space for the protags to develop.

It would be nice to see them to then confirm it was worth it to some extent, I wonder the extent to which fate will try to push him to meeting his demise as that time gets closer too. Him being setup as a villain so successfully just before his trial might be tied to fate trying to force him back on his path if that is an aspect of the story.

Thanks for the translation, looking forward to more.

I still don't get why MC can't just unlife Justus? If theres a reason in the novel but not the manga they really needed to say it. MC has the power and ability to do the act then self exile far away but instead we are going the most roundabout dangerous way to bring Justus to task.

I think it did get mentioned way earlier in the novel.

Killing him won't undo the extensive damage he's done to the continent itself. He needs to be convinced, and Harold is in the unique position of having Speech -100.

I hope we see some of what Justus is up to these last few years. It feels so annoying knowing really nothing about the main villain.

How does the sword's life force consuming mechanic work tho?
There doesn't seem to be any changes in his complexion.
TBF he used it sparingly here, and also the reason why he's dual-wielding. For all we know the sword's what killed game-Harold after he used it to fight with the hero party twice.

Fun fact: the manga accidentally has Harold dual-wielding in chapter 1, but corrected to only using one sword in the volume release.

Left: Web manga; Right: Volume release

Yeap. Pigtails is still annoying.

Understand how El is now relevant to the story. Thanks!
Damn you guys hate her huh? I actually like her quite a bit. She’s just the spunky female JRPG party member. So far she hasn’t really done anything that’s out of character for someone who doesn’t literally have spy-levels of intel on Harold.

Thanks for the new chapters!

The quiet flaps of the butterfly's wings can indirectly create a hurricane somewhere else
More or less what we call the butterfly effect. Harold's actions during his younger years are really having its effects now. Even if some things are going as they should (he didn't plan to change the main story's flow after all), the causalities are already altered and right now the 'tutorial npc' is now his follower and even one of the main playable characters might have a delayed encounter with the main hero party. Well, I guess Harold is just more focused on figuring out Justus motivations rather than keeping things as the game was - all of which to prevent his death and also protect the other characters from the unnecessary deaths.

Shouldn't Giffelt know about Justus and that the dude is bad news? If they don't know even that much, they are worth nothing. So, assuming they do know, one would think it's extremely ill-adviced to spend a lot of time in Harold's company, especially in any civilised places. There's no way Justus wouldn't keep an eye on Harold. In fact there are probably others who do, since it's not like all of the corrupt people would be nothing but zombies serving Justus. The army general, while likely manipulated by Justus, still ought to be his own master and seeking his own fortune, by willingly cooperating with Justus. For the time being, such cooperation would serve Justus more than having only mindless drones doing his bidding. After all, Harold is also willingly cooperating with Justus, despite having the opposite goals. Yes, Harold was blackmailed into it, but he could just hit the road if he wanted to. He'd be a fugitive, but so what? He doesn't do it because it wouldn't suit his goals.
