Oh its for sure pride and sunk cost, but even those have limits. He has to realize by now he is just hurting himself.
A cold and calculating deity will surely realize it but a hot-blooded enemy is another matter altogether.
The Guide is a God or at least something similar that preys on human misfortune, losing your cool when food humiliates you that way is understandable.

doing a reread rn and found the thing I was thinking of. Absorbing the emotions of others is weak enough to be noted that it's "much to be desired" if the target is not Liam.

Fair enough, still doesn't make your earlier posts any more relevant though.

Since your before this you said "(otherwise he could just take it from liam's enemies and be very well fed)"
And as you just post yourself, as long as it's related to Liam i.e. even Liam's enemies, the guide has higher absorption rate.

So he could, in fact, be well fed just eating Liam's enemies.

Then again since in that chapter he got assblasted by Liam's gratitude right after, taking into account occasional blast of Liam like that the guide is probably better off just going to another dimension where Liam's gratitude won't reach.

Thats kind of the problem with him, he isn't mindless, he understands and plans for long term payouts. Which makes the short sightedness here feel off.

He isn't mindless but might as well be considered so, being outplayed by someone so inferior gave him pride-fueled tunnel vision.
Imagine the Guide has a friend, that person could calm him down and Liam would be dying miserably in less than a week.

I'm pretty sure he did gain enough power back to jump world at one point, but he decided to stick around because of ego as I mentioned.

Can't be arsed to re-read to check right now tho.

when will these people learn, going up against MC always ends badly and being his ally always ends well
well, can't really blame the evil god, as long Liam likes him, he will keep on suffer so the only option he has is to try get rid of Liam.

Kinda hate how this "let's go kill pirates in the frontier patrolling fleet" idea allows the author to completely dodge having to justify the shoddy world building up to now.

Namely, considering this empire headed by a petty tyrant, who's army is fielded by arrogant jackasses, equipped by clowns… Who are they at war with ? Who is the enemy that is somehow unable to crush that incompetent empire ?

Berkley head aside, I don't really see what dangers the homeless con man and salty business woman who is doing hard labor could pose to Liam, but good luck, Guide. Lord knows you'll need all of it and then some.

He uses resentment as both food and a power source, but with everything he has invested into Liam, he is suffering an exchange penalty for draining any hate that isn't at least tied to Liam. A few chapters ago he drained an entire planet to mess with one or two people.

The irony is that, with the way his powers work, the more he looses to Liam, and Liam is grateful to him, the better he ends up making the universe.
The ultimate Galaxy reforming duo!
Guide brings baddies against Liam,
Liam kills baddies, and the Guide sucks the negativity out of the survivors!
