"I have this girl I'm interested in."
"You should hold her hand."
"But we are not dating and I don't know if she likes me."
"Doesn't matter, hold her hand and interlock your fingers. It's completely normal."

I hate what this has become. She's completely manipulating him at this point. Like full stop abusing her special situation to steer the relationship in whatever direction she wants. It's so darn wrong and the author just won't stop trying to make I come across cute.

I kept thinking there would eventually be a fallout regarding this, but the way the author keeps framing if, I no longer think this will be the case. The author legitimately finds no issues with this entire situation. Is this some sort of weird wish fulfillment? Where they feel like male partners are such numbskulls that literally any decision they make must be cross-checked with the partner without ever putting the partner in an equally vulnerable position? In honestly now bordering on calling this author sexist. It's putting the girl in such an enormous emotional pedestal.

There's a lot of talk these days about how we, as a society, are trying to move towards equal relationships, where one side does not control the other. There is pushback right now about western romance literature with the "dominating narcissistic billionaire" archetype or the "damsel in destress" heroine. Japan is so, so, so behind on this cultural development, though it's funny to see it in reverse. Usually they fall into the "dominating male, damsel female" gender dynamic. But this "dense males and manipulating control freaks with no risks females" is just as bad. Sorry, just can't not rant about this at this point.

Also, poor translator, that message hit me in the feels.

How him being a retard justifies her being manipulative? The correct answer would be to come out clean to him, not manipulate him into doing what she likes under the guise of "friendly advice".
This is the same kind of weird-ass logic that blames the victims of gaslighting.

Bro it ain’t that deep. Honestly, if I was in the same exact scenario yes I’d be embarassed as hell when I found out, but also like she hasn’t done anything cruel or evil. If anything she was spoon feeding him answers and he’s made way more progress than he would alone. Like I’m not gonna be mad at the girl who used her secret identity to, lemme check my notes, ease my anxieties while attempting to date her.
