This is overextending for no reason.

You can tell that there is no editor behind the author because of how messy and inconsistent the whole post-LN arc is.

Let me get this straight: this guy has a photo/video of your childhood friend when she was a child and nude, and he's threatening to upload it online unless she prostitutes herself for him?
Does nobody in this story have any functioning brain cells?
The material itself would already be considered child sexual abuse material. On top of that, he's committing blackmail, extortion, coercion, harassment, invasion of privacy, and several other crimes. The guy even stole a phone. At this point he's basically building a criminal record speedrun.
What makes this arc so frustrating is that the solution is painfully obvious: call the police. Tell a parent. Tell a teacher. Tell literally any responsible adult.
The threat itself is also so overstated and overused. The idea that someone can release a video and it immediately becomes viral and everyone in Japan sees it, can identify the person, and his life will be ruined. Even though the subject is a child, and a victim.

It would get taken down immediately, and he would go to jail since proving it was him would be simple, plus it would expose all the other crimes he did.

Even if some people save it, the kind of people that would keep it and share it among themselves aren't going to be making a big deal out of it due to how illegal participating in that is. As in, pointing out that you can recognize a victim of CP means you watch CP yourself. Kind of like recognizing a porn actress in real life, you wouldn't shout it out, and that's not even a crime.

I agree with you on this, the majority of people don't know what that term means and just use it because it widespread in the mainstream communities (since it also became some kind of meme)

I’ll let you in on a secret: the word you’re looking for here is “functional illiteracy” (I hope you've learned something new today).

Btw, I'm pretty sure that neither that guy (who clearly gave me a confirm of this with his comment) nor you (I'm pretty sure of this too, but I'll still give you the benefit of the doubt) understood what I said in my first comment.
I'll let you in on a secret too: people who don't understand what "media literacy" means, are unlikely to understand what "functional illiteracy" is (three-cueing, anyone?)

And don't worry, I understand what you meant with your first comment, you're just plainly wrong.

Every one of your responses oozes this smug, smartest-guy-in-the-room attitude, so don't be surprised that people take exception to that.

I'm pretty sure you don't, but i won't waste my time on it (since the other guy completely misunderstood my first message and you didn't give me any counter-argument on it, which makes me think you haven’t understood it either and this new comment of yours only reinforced my first impression)

Sure, dude, think whatever you like (or whatever suits you best) at this point I don’t care.

I still don't care about Hanabi, I just want to see MC punch the asshole in the face.

Amazing what a couple months of being unwillingly whored out to random ojii-san will do as a corrective.

It's even worse when you realize they basically had to destroy Hanabi's personality and logic of how things were to make this arc work.

In the earlier arcs, she was perfectly capable of plotting, manipulating situations, and thinking ahead. But now, somehow, she couldn't come up with anything to make this complete moron take a fall? Not call an adult, not gather proof, not set him up, not use the fact that he was already committing a pile of crimes against her and the MC?

No, instead the story goes with the worst possible route: everyone suddenly becomes stupid, the plan is absurdly bad, and the villain turns into some hentai-level evil caricature just so the drama can keep escalating.

That's what makes me worried about continuing this series. We already had an attempted SA against the MC with the crazy lady from work, and now his childhood friend is being abused, with the story being vague about how far it went, all for a very weak plot device.

So at this point, why should I trust the author not to take the worst possible route with the MC and the FML too, especially if dragging out the suffering helps milk the drama longer? This arc is not just dark. It's absurd.

Welp, all's forgiven. Hanabi best girl.
Really? She ruined 10 years of the MC life and now she is in trouble (and getting other people involved) just because she is dumb so now everything is ok? I don't think minus minus is plus in this case.

The only right choice for the MC is to ghost her forever and enjoy life with the FMC.

Completely butchered? Brother.....she's been pimped, before that she was already feeling remorseful for how she used to treat Souma, this whole experience she went thru kicked that remorse into high gear

It's crazy after reading these past few chapters you just chock it up to "for no reason"

Media literacy is so cooked
Hanabi was acting weird before the pimp, and what makes it funny is that she doesn't seem to be getting worse at all after what she is going through. My issue is not what happened to her, it's the execution in my case. Everyone except the MC seems to have no brain (Including Kirigaya, there is no way that this is going to end well for him).

What the actual fuck did the author smoke for the manga to crash and burn this hard? I'm not trying to be funny, something critical had to happen for the writing to go nuclear. Was I simply hallucinating characterization, details and potential in this manga that the author never intended the entire time? I found it to be well deserving of the Psychology tag until the latest arc.

I'm dropping this immediately, it's beyond recovery.

This manga needs to last more than 5 sentences per chapter

It's simple the author butchered her character (as i said in my previous comment) because she finished her ideas for this 2nd volume of the novel and is dragging the second half of it with misery porn and cheap drama. Chapter 45 of the manga is literally when this whole manga "jumped the shark": old chacters we have seen before where reproposed in this "new light" (literally altered to produce this slop), and it was at this point that the whole thing fell apart (though there were already signs before that the author didn't know anymore what to tell in this part of the manga).

Hanabi as a character in this new novel (and part of the manga) was supposed to have a complete different role in this story (just like her sister was also supposed to) and the clues that justify what i'm saying are literally all there. If you don't know what i'm saying, just as a reminder, let's briefly look on what happens in chapter 36:

nbfknNw.jpeg

This from a narrative standpoint is basically the setup for her character in this new story (since the first novel was at first autoconclusive and the author only did this one cause the first sold well): a character that realized that what she did was wrong, so now she will have to come over her "crazyness" and "reform" herself towards dialogue with the only people who really cares about her (her family and in particular the sister), and we were supposed to see how this new "reformed" Hanabi will act towards our MC and the new girlfriend once she reforms and come back to school.

What seemed to be a good premise got completely discarded later: the sister now is comically evil and worst than her; the only way for Hanabi to be reformed is not by "reflecting on what she did" and "grew up", but by being "coerced into prostitution" and "getting raped"; the punishment for her sins it's not "not let her feelings go over senpai's well being", but instead continuing this endless circle of "suffering through misery" (btw i think this whole "lesson", that comes directly from the author, to be truly disgusting, but honestly not even that much disaligned with some parts of the japaneses' mentality)

The author completely destroyed this (good) setup that she herself set for this new story and ended up basically reciclying her old ideas (that she already did in another of her novels, centered, guess what, around the concept of manipulation, revenge and punishment and also filled with a huge amount of rape, used pretty much how it was used here) to make this crap

From what I heard the web novel did not not have this arc the author of the light novel added this arc and even went as far as to have Yukishiro getting raped as well, It looks like her getting raped was removed in the manga version, And the author of the manga is the same author of other work's were rape is used as a punishment for the female characters.

In the light novel 2 Yukishiro it's never raped, i've seen all and never found something like that, so I'm not sure where did you get that info from
