Wait what?
The author is a WOMAN!?

Well that explains a lot, she must be into classic shoujo manga. They love rapey stuff in those "cute wholesome girl's romance stories".
The interesting thing is, most of the time when you see really horrid stuff happen, especially to female characters. The author/creator is often a woman. Women tend to have less mercy and sympathy for female characters.

The WN actually has its epilogue wrap-up just after the school trip arc. Perhaps it would've been best if that had stayed the ending.
My opinion of the manga as well. The artist and the editor and the publisher had the choice to wrap it up at the school trip arc and keep the writer's continuation contained in the LN, they choose not to.

So… I was looking at the official release site and noticed that the author puts a little summary at the beginning of the chapters… and something really pissed me off.

In it, the author says that Hanabi is “being forced to do a certain part-time job.” So being raped and sex trafficked is now a “part-time job”? I don’t know if the author is desensitized to this kind of stuff because of what she writes in Fukushuu o Koinegau Saikyou Yuusha wa, but I think she should call it what it is, especially since she decided to take this route with her story.

Here’s the summary and an MTL on it:

Also, since someone told the author on X that she destroyed the story in chapter 46, she deleted the post where she got called out, and she hasn’t promoted the manga on her X since then. Pretty sensitive about it, huh.

Thanks for the chapter!
I thought we were going to get a horimiya like story, instead we got rent a trash instead, the author really done fucked up.

I don't know if the whole story is destroyed since it's not over yet and maybe the author can pull a mature way to resolve this plotline out of their ass but the tone that had been built up over the years is irreparable. We literally can not go back to the lighthearted relationship healing vibe that was present before. Everyone hated Hanabi and wanted to see her get some comeuppance but it is absolute insanity to do what has been done the last 4 chapters.
There's nothing you can do to resolve this plot line bro. This isn't an isekai fantasy world where we can say "You know what, shit happens it's not real life"

This is a modern times romcom set in Japan where a girl willingly let herself get blackmailed and prostituted to anyone because of a video she filmed 10 years beforehand of her childhood friend peeing himself...the plot is beyond stupid
The absolute best case scenario is that his GF tells him about it fucking finally, he goes and protects her, she cries, and then after some shit happens (probably talking to the police) the guy goes to prison for life or dies....
That's still not a good way to tie up this storyline, it still feels disgusting. Even if the girl was a bitch, it's not to the point where we want her to get subjected to this 💀

Guess I'll drop it. Idk, the last few chapters have been abysmal dogshit and I can't stomach it anymore. Still, thanks for the tl.

man we just ignoring that my boy got straight up raped last chapter?

We're too focused on the blackmail and continual raping of his childhood friend

Ngl both of these problems would be resolved already if his GF would just talk to him but we gotta drag this out....
Personally, I think anyone who finds out someone is being raped and says nothing to anyone else is a bad person...even if she does end up fessing up to the MC and he resolves it however he does that, that means from the point she learned about it to the point she told him and it gets resolved, there's weeks or months of additional suffering being inflicted, directly caused by her inaction.
If the MC has any brains next chapter he's probably going to tell her what happened to him so she doesn't get fed BS. Probably along the lines of I met her in a family restaurant, drank a drink she got from me and then when I woke up it was the next day and i was naked next to her, I think I was drugged.

Thank you, it's been weird seeing people turn a blind eye to Fumi's accessory role in this retarded situation continuing. The sad part is that it's actually fairly realistic. More than once, I've personally witnessed girls just offering "moral support" for a long time to someone they know is being abused in one way or another, never once taking any steps to help them actually get out of the situation. It's mindboggling, but it just seems to be how some people are wired. It's understandable in some cases, as some people just "don't want to be helped." It could just be my unlearned opinion, but that often just seems like battered person syndrome. Either way, in those cases, it's often not worth the risk unless you're heavily invested in the person, as I've seen them turn on the very person trying to help. :haa:

Yeah I don't understand the logic at all, I can't even say it's a byproduct of Japanese culture to not meddle in other peoples business, because this type of shit also happens in America...
But in this case, I find his GF to be morally reprehensible for not saying anything...she could have gone to the police, a teacher, her bf, her parents, literally anyone...instead, she's keeping quiet now for like what, days or weeks? The whole time that other girl is being raped every day? That's beyond fucked.
If the MC was me, I would break up with her immediately if I found out, I just cannot love someone like that.
I don't care if the girl told her not to tell him or the fact that she said she doesn't need help, obviously in her viewpoint she thinks that her suffering is just cause for the things she did to the MC, which is stupid as fuck. She's a kid, yes she should have known better, but I don't think that being raped is even remotely equal punishment for what she's done

If I want to see a storyline like this, I would rather just go read hentai doujins.

So he fancies himself an elite businessman when he's just a pimp of an underaged sex worker-wait now that I'm saying this out loud it sounds sadly familiar...

The tonal whiplash just from one chapter to another should have been enough for the author to realize something was off. At this point the whole story is tainted. Having one of the three main characters being g.-r. in a public bathroom isn't something you come back from. You would think that would be obvious. But it seems that the author legitimately thinks this is just desserts.
🫤

I'm guessing the author's idea is to compare the ML's experience with the girl's. Since he's a good person he has a support structure and such. But even on the face of it the girl's experience is so much worse. This should be especially apparent to a woman, which the author is according to commenters.

On a meta level, i find it intriguing how despite its trashiness, people are still motivated to continue reading, and got worked up enough to explode the comments thread. I'm curious, what are the common elements between dumpster fire stories that we kept loving to hate (think domekano, kanokari) vs those that we just said "meh" and dropped without so much as a peep into the comments section. Surely there's something (likely perversely) appealing in the former dung heap that still hooks us in to keep us returning to them that the latter lack (so much so that i couldn't even recall any example titles to put into that second category, despite remembering encountering them frequently enough).

Can't speak for others, but I know any story that I've "hate read" for more than the 2~3 chapters of my usual inertia, it's because they have some element (character, premise, relationship dynamic, etc.) that greatly piqued my interest. In this case, it was Souma picking himself up by his bootstraps and genuinely trying to have a fresh start. Rather than the cynical mopelords you usually get (which CAN be fun, but have been overdone of late) for this type of story, Souma being a clueless and socially stunted, but overall friendly, well-meaning dude was a breath of fresh air.
Honestly, I can't remember any of those titles long-term, unless someone else brings them up first, because in the broader scheme of things, they're just junk food reads. There's a certain catharsis in reading something infuriating and venting about it or clowning on something mind-numbingly stupid, but it's also a momentary one as opposed to the long-term one from memorable character arcs or plotlines.
