As a side note, why is Houjou is so invested /interested in the MC? Is this ever explained? (aside from the classic self insert romcom writing that is, like the other girl who fell in love with the brother because he removed a petal from her head because that's just a different kind of "he picked up my eraser so i love him")

The brother does not feel like a real "human" character with how they keep depicting him like a mindless plot device that feels no real emotions.

"He is nice" is not a panty dropper characteristic considering he is flat in pretty much everything else (like a true shounen romcom MC).
