I dunno about you, but I kinda feel our girl here is a tad underdeveloped. Because I already love Kotoko, but I need a bit more to make me more motivated to back this girl too.

Rule the universe? Nah, I imagine there are hundreds of American high schools with a stronger team.

Sorry Amane but Ijichi is top. Smart, check. Stylish, check. Honest with feelings, mostly check. Has genuine fun with MC, check. Has passions and hobbies but they don't define her. 100% best girl material. Meanwhile Amane is a one-trick "gap" character. Their "chemistry" is basically... they share a hobby and she's attractive? But she's usually unwilling to be sincere and often has to be forced or tricked into it. Not that she's a bad person or character, but it's just so obvious that Ijichi clicks best.

I hate to say that you're right, but you're right. F in the chat for Amane.

Amane got so engrossed she didn’t even realize, so was this after Seo cheered for her or did that happen in between pages here? Y’know it only just occurred to me how little Amane has pushed Seo to grow, I keep pointing it out every time it comes up, but each time he grows a little it’s all because Ijichi motivated him to do so.

At this rate the only thing Amane has going for her is the fact that the two of them really like the same things. But when it comes to a personal level, and when things get more intimate, the two of them have a hard time really doing anything and wind up feeling awkward and get sidetracked or distracted.

That doesn’t happen with Ijichi, that’s exclusively an Amane thing. Don’t get me wrong both Ijichi and Seo get flustered or embarrassed around each other at times. But because of who Ijichi is they’re able to reel it back in and they don’t lose the mood or try to distract each other. No quite the opposite, Seo points out things he likes about her, she does the same in return, and the two of them push each other out of their comfort zones, they try new things, and seeing the other succeed just motivates them to do better and try harder.

Amane, despite it not looking like it from a casual perspective, doesn’t have much does she? She really drew the short end of the stick. The two of them get along with each other really well, and they’re good friends, but they seem to lack a certain kind of chemistry that Ijichi and Seo have together which is strange since Amane has been the one who’s taken the spotlight the most out of the two of them.

I guess that just speaks volumes about how much Ijichi has managed with what little she’s been given huh?

I mean hell for example just take a look at this chapter, on the surface it doesn’t seem like it adds much to what I was saying, but think about it a little bit. Ijichi isn’t all that good at sports or athletic things in general but she still decided to try her best with what she knew she could handle. Which motivated Seo to do his best with something he knew he couldn’t handle but tried to anyway, while he didn’t succeed, he didn’t fail either, he just got to gain a new experience and grew a little as a result.

What did Amane do? She felt like she was being left behind, so she fell back on something she was already really good at instead of trying something new. It’s not a bad decision she made, but it’s one that unlike the other two lacked challenge. She lacked the motivation to challenge herself, she doesn’t have that spark of desire the other two share which pushes them to better themselves when seeing the other succeed.

Just another example of something simple and seemingly inconsequential on the surface painting a bigger picture under said surface. There are lots of examples like this if you look back on all the chapters thus far.
