Welcome to a typical convoluted Chinese storytelling. It can't simply be just go from A to B, it has to be from half way to B to almost D then take roundabout to half-a-step before A then take a shortcut to C via E but somehow finally ends up at B. It's fun at the beginning but after one too many of these, you'd just want the story to get on with it.

I just went back to reread the series. Just realized that this scene could explain the early chapters where Elsa stuck to Evie and asked to be bullied.

I'm still not really on board with the time travel. First, the situation didnt seem that dire and as the bad stuff was only happening in the future.
