Man, this just makes me mad. Seeing shit like this on chapter 49 had me thinking we were making good progress. I was a fool.

It doesn't really come across in the translation, but 好き is a complete sentence in Japanese, where the object of affection is not explicitly stated but rather inferred from context, so rather than "love", it'd be totally valid to translate it to "I love you" (and this is how Ooyama hears it, which is why he reacts that way), although she immediately denies that she was talking about him.
