It's supported in every major browser and has been for years, and as far as I can tell it's no longer an experimental feature, it's in the Living Standard.

Usually one can easily say that those old Firefox users should update their browser to Quantum (Firefox 57+). Unfortunately, many of old Firefox users still use their old Firefox (mostly 56.0.2) just because of their old but great legacy add-ons that has no equivalent to any Quantum extensions (yet). The conveniences those legacy add-ons brought are just too great for them.

Waterfox. Not helpful, I know.

Quite a few Chrome and android were
reported with the same problem now.
Pretty sure Chrome 88 is not an 'old' browser

Something strange is going on.

"No known server issues"... right...

The problem with my iPad (which I reported in the Apple thread), has now "spread" to my desktop (which had been working 2-3 hours ago.

Desktop:

Win 7 Service Pack 1
Google Chrome version 89+ (just updated from some version 88)
No adblockers, script blockers, etc etc.
East Coast of the US, using Spectrum cable connection
No VPN
Was working as recently as ~6 am EST 3/11/2021

iPad:
iPad Air
IOS 12.5.1
Apple Safari (not sure how to check version, but I keep it updated with whatever Apple sends me)
No adblockers, script blockers, etc etc.
Same location and ISP obviously.
Was working as recently as ~4 pm EST 3/10/2021

Firefox 56.0.2, same issue. Images simply never load, tried disabling noscript, adblock, etc. without result.

I was having similar issues. Got stuff like "Can't load chapter. Server might be busy."

I fixed it by going to Settings > Password and Security. In there is a "Persistent Sessions:" field. And there was a bunch of sessions there (I think from the fact that I go Incognito all the time and click Remember Me). Clearing all those sessions fixed the issue for me. I guess there's something about them that didn't mesh with the new setup.

Also sorry if this solution has already been posted. Didn't read through the whole thread before I started screwing around.

@DarkFenix and other users with Firefox 56 or older: moderator has already told us:
If you're running a four year old browser for some reason; update it. We're not maintaining compatibility with legacy software so irrelevant it doesn't even show up on our analytics.
So... yeah. Use another browser to view MangaDex from now on. You can download a portable version of Firefox or Google Chrome and keep it specifically for MangaDex.

On Firefox 86 I was having issues until I allowed mangadex.network to run. It only showed up after the pages attempted to load, but not when the page first loads.

Yes, but Chrome is very famous for breaking things every new version. Chrome is also very famous for not supporting some standards but at the same time supporting other experimental things.
Chrome is also very famous for supporting some weird experimental things at the price of not supporting some standards.

On the other hand Firefox 56 is already 4-5 years old.

Edit: rephrased.

Something that is affecting at least three different browsers on both desktop and mobile platforms, cannot be handwaved away by alluding to supposed history of “breaking things”. Especially so since this was all working fine yesterday.

i'm still running on Windows 7 and EVEN I think you should just update your browser already, lol

Well i found this topic because i had the same problem with infinite loading, but in my case it was NoScript blocking the mangadex.network address, as someone pointed out. Allowing that fixed the issue, so for all people with recent browsers, that's the most likely culprit.

Chapters were stuck infinitely loading for me today on Chrome, but I tried opening one in Incognito mode (where my Scriptsafe doesn't run) and the chapter loaded fine. That's when I realized I now had to allow a bunch of random things in Scriptsafe for the chapters to start loading again for some reason.

I don’t use any kind of script blocking anything, so nope, that’s not it.

OK, found the solution for Firefox version 56 and older: install AbortController polyfill manually for your browser only via TaperMonkey add-on. Step-by-step instruction:
[ol]
[*]Download and install TamperMonkey version 4.11.6120 add-on for Firefox. You can download it from the official Mozilla add-ons website. Scroll down to "Older versions" and click "+ Add to Firefox" button.
[*]Open this gist, select and copy entire code to the clipboard.
[*]Click the TamperMonkey button on the browser toolbar. Select "Create a new script..." from the pop-up menu.
[*]In the editor you see select all lines, then delete them and paste the code from the clipboard.
[*]Right above the first line in the editor (i.e. above // ==UserScript==) click "File->Save". Do not try to go to the browser's menu "File->Save". Click the one inside the page!
[*]Open new tab and check any manga on MangaDex. It should now show images.
[/ol]

I swear I didn't change anything from the AbortPolyfill I installed via npm. I only copied the code as is and modified the "// ==UserScript==" section. If you want to be sure that this script won't steal your passwords / credit card information / other valuable data, take the code from the official sources (link above) create new TamperMonkey user script and copy-paste it manually. Also, you can read and inspect the code (JavaScript knowledge might be required).
Also, you might change the
@match */*
line to match MangaDex domains (I don't know which ones, don't ask me). Then AbortController polyfill won't work on other websites (and they'll still be broken), but at least you won't have to worry that it might steal your personal information from those websites.

Ok, continued testing. Most of my details are in my previous post, but now I'm using firefox 86.0b3, still with umatrix and ublock origin, which I don't think I've ever logged into mangadex with, not positive I've even visited the site. Without being logged in it didn't seem to have any problems, but I didn't test it very long. After logging in, it seemed to be working, then it stopped and I had to allow the script from ddos-guard, and then I went back a few chapters on a manga and it stopped requesting the ddos-guard script and also stopped working. Disabled both umatrix and ublock filtering and it still isn't requesting the ddos-guard script and also endless spinning.

*edit* and just to check, drill ddos-guard.net worked without problem, so I don't think it's dns related.

@crazybars All of those are DNS blocks, SEA ISPs seem to be on a rampage today.
@maindish Are you blocking mangadex.network URLs from loading on the reader?
