Yeaaaah, that's the kind of chapter where half of the comments lack any kind of retenue or nuance.
My take on all that:
-
YES, she have a really tragic backstory (let's not diminish how much sexual assault can ruin someone's life and mind please, especially when you have no one to turn to, like her bitch of a mother. "It's your fault, you have a filthy body", fucking asshole, I swear to god...)
-Promiscuity, like someone said before, is a known reaction to victims of this kind of stuff, so, sadly, it's quite a realistic reaction.
-
NO, what she's doing isn't right or cannnot be fully excused. She planned to ruin a relationship. Yeah, she's doing that by vengeance because of the horrible experience(s) of her past, but she still decided to make other people who didn't do anything to her pay. She's not full black, but she's clearly not pure white, no no no.
About that comment:
What she did to MC would qualify as rape if the sexes were reversed.
I get what you're trying to say, with the double standard between men and women when it's about sexual assault, but no, it would not have qualified as rape iF the sex were reversed in this situation, because she didn't rape anyone as we saw.
(but I agree on the fact that if the sexes were reversed it would have played out differently)
And i'll use that to go to my next point:
-Remember that
you need TWO people to cheat in a relationship. Yeah, she seduced other guys, I get it, but she didn't forced herself on any of them. I mean, that's the freaking point of the chapter: MC said rejected her, she stopped.
Yeah, she's fucked up to try and seduce a new father, but the dude didn't backed up at any point from what we saw. Same for her teacher: he chosed to put his hands on a student, even if she gave him the okay. So let's not act like the only person to blame in her previous stories is her...
In conclusion? That's a freaking grey character, with a sadly realistic and tragic backstory, and a way of coping that makes her more a bad person than anything, but not "woke up one day and decided to be a piece of shit" kind of evil.
She's not "a slut who's past doesn't count" but neither "a poor innocent woman that did no wrong".
I just hope the author will actually go somewhere with all that and give her some sort of character development/closure, and not just put her in the background and do nothing about her, what she went through or what she did.
