Rework "Villainess" tag to include manga with male leads :rejected:

But yeah, to get back to the overall conversation, I think a "female protag" and "male protag" sorting would at the very least help find some manga easier, villainess or not. Pretty sure you'd get all the villainess manga with "female protag" + "isekai" + "fantasty" or "historical", maybe "romance"
I second this. Uh, I mean,
+1

It would admittedly take a long time to add female/male protagonist to each and every manga though.

OP, I feel like you are misunderstanding something, maybe not.

But the villainess tag isn't for female characters that are Villains, but mostly for characters that got reincarnated into a game/story where their new bodies used to be the antagonist of the story they read.
the reason it got a tag is because of the thousands upon thousands of otome game LN/WNs, which of a bunch got adapted into manga.

on top of my head, there is only one male lead with a villain background; Ains from Overlord. but even he continues to be a villain, not trying to break the mold/fate of his character, not that what fate he actually had in that world either, which is another trope for a villainess story (the MC most of the times know what happens in the future of the original timeline branch).

This is at least my take on the villainess "genre".

Also, while the word villainess does have a gender bias, I dont think there is a problem to put a story with a male lead under the villainess genre.
At least not until stories with a male lead start to pop up a lot more.

so, to me, what you're saying is that a tag has been created that has a meaning different from the actual word used for the tag. Yeah, I don't see people newer to manga or otome being confused by this. Then you're going to toss males into a tag that is gender based so that people can filter female antagonists wait I mean female protagonists, uh ok, sorry I'm a little confused. Any ways, so using the tag people who have a preference for or against female, uh whatevers, can filter in or out the female whatevers and only have the male whatevers excluded or included, well except for the males whatevers who are being covered by a gender based tag.

Uh, ok, to recap, we have a tag that actually doesn't cover what the definition of the word means and it will include characters outside of the gender defined by the tag? Sorry I'm a little confused, can you explain this again?

@Chrisis I'm fully aware what the Villainess tag is being used for. Here are two manga as an example of what I'm talking about in my first post:

https://mangadex.org/title/50011/my-death-flags-show-no-sign-of-ending

https://mangadex.org/title/24206/buta-koushaku-ni-tensei-shitakara-kondo-wa-kimi-ni-suki-to-iitai

People reborn into the role of the antagonist of a game/story.

Yeah, those two mangas are what I'd accept being put under the villainess tag, even though they are male.

Might be confusing indeed, but not entirely sure what else to put it under, as not everything is an otome game.

@Chrisis Well, that's kinda the point of the post. It's just a tag, so there's no harm in reworking it and making it more general so different variations of the theme naturally fit under it. "Future-proof" the tag, if you will.

@Halo Yeah, it is quite suspicious of why the villainess tag is easily being implemented despite there are less than 200 manga so far about it. It's a Conspiracy!

@KathyClysm thanks for the suggestion.
I read it but unfortunately it's a longstrip, so I feel like I read all 46 chapters like just 6 chapter. The story don't really have enough action though and in the end the males seems more dominant in it's plot.

Lol you can put rejected on this as many times as you want I'll either keep bumping it or make a new post in a week. The Villainess tag needs to be better, and the evidence for that is just gonna keep mounting as time goes on.

BestBoy? More like PersistentBoy.

It might help to type your reasons out neatly tho, as reading through threads to find each point would probably make the mods less inclined to change it.

I fail to see why you are unwilling to put male protaganists under the Villainess tag. However I'm happy to petition internally to rename Villainess to I've been reborn as the antagonist in a story I read and now I have to avoid all these death flags to reach my happy ending??

@fugiman Very nice snark, but please don't act like you don't know Villainess is inherently a gendered noun. If the tags didn't take gender into account we wouldn't have separate tags for yuri/yaoi, shounen ai/shoujo ai, loli/shota. For example, there are 0 works under the 107 Gyaru titles that feature a gyaruo as the main character. Almost as if people aren't going to tag a manga about a gyaruo with it's female counterpart tag.

Sorry for backstabbing you like that, but I was memeing when making that post. Even mangaupdates doesn't have it as a tag and has only 3 untranslated mangoes with "gyaruo" in their title.
Although, sadpanda has the "gyaru-oh" tag, featuring plenty of wholesome trap hentai, Plykiya would testify. 😉

The Magical Boy/s is a proper tag though.
