So yeah, this is how Mahoro first met Rei. You can really tell that Rei had ulterior motives in this encounter, likely because of his mother pushing for him to get married.

He certainly had a very different attitude before they got married, which explains how Mahoro fell for him, similarly to how in the spin-off he was very easygoing with Rio.

It really feels like a case of Mahoro was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Funny Mahoro reminds me of girls I've known before being like completely deer in headlights with male attention or affection. From what I hear in Japan and Korea at least there can be very little interaction with the opposite sex before college or even being in the workplace. So falling for sweet little lies shouldn't be a rarity.

So this story is actually all Momoka's fault... JK JK What I do find funny is that all of Momoka's faults are in the backstory. Actively she's done nothing wrong and I'd like to think that's on purpose not just to sow doubt or contrast. (This extra is right after Kyouko hit on Rei) It's to show another character changing and/or valuing their friendship other than Mahoro.

Now I know the lame counter-argument you're going to try: Haruto is younger than Mahoro, how could he have possibly manipulated Mahoro's parents into giving her that name?
