Im kinda dissatisfied that fern didnt kill the priest, not because I want her to kill someone but because it feels silly at this point, they are trained assassins, you cant go soft on them, stark was going to die some chapters ago, mercy will only get you killed

I wonder what reasons they have for trying to kill the great mages. Especially after all they've done for humanity...
I guess they are afraid because of how powerful they are. Serie concealing her mana probably has more mana than any human could ever have in their entire lifetime. This is probably frightening for them. The great mages are basically nuclear weapons and they are not on the side of the empire.

Politics. Is it what you did for humanity, or what I (your good friend) can tell people you did for humanity, and if all the descriptions of you sound more like me than you, then who really knows.

Yeah, I think Serie is going to die in this arc.

My reason for that is by dying in the Empire, it brings a conclusion to Serie's initial reluctance to grant Flamme's dying wish (to make magic available for human). And by granting that wish, then the Empire was born.

Flamme, one of Serie's most cherished disciple, was the cornerstone of the Empire. The very same Empire who want her dead today.

At least, that's my main reason for Serie's later death. The other reason is about handling an overpowered character in a fictional story.

OP characters such as Levi from AOT and Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen at some point need to be nerfed. To have an OP character in a story is a privelege, but it can also be a hindrance as they can easily become a Deux-Ex Machina whenever the plot convenience it.

In Sousou no Frieren's case, the OP character is obviously Serie. I think the author is trying to deal with her one way or another. Although in my deepest of heart, I hope the author can suprise me with this arc.

I hope the twist is going to be that everyone keeps expecting serie to be overconfident and cocky, and that leading to her downfall, then it'll turn out she is nowhere near the truth. Do remember that most of them aren't even aware she is hiding most of her power, and that type of action requires conscious concertation on the caster to be constantly hiding their mana output.

This chapter illustrates the different mentality between the super-long-lived Serie and Frieren and humans. To them while death is not something they fear, it will happen if it must. They have already lived countless human lifespans and most likely have come to turns with their inevitable mortality. Why run from it and not eventually welcome it like an old friend? Who knows how long elves actually live for. The elven-priest and Serie seemingly have existed since the last now a mythical civilization, in comparison to our history, since before the Bronze Age Collapse and they don't really show any signs of ageing.
But to humans and especially the mages, Serie is an irreplacable constant in their lives. For their whole civilization she has been there as the pinnacle to strive for. Removing her is akin to removing a star or the moon from the skies. So alive she must be kept, even if the person herself wouldn't mind facing danger and death.

While the most rational decision is to kill, I actually think it would be very out-of-character for Fern to be so ruthless that she kills a human for the first time when given the choice to do so.

Found you no I found you
Fern be like :meguupog:

Maybe Sein finally gets to meet a certain older lady who's with the Continental Magic Association as well...

Looking forward to how everything falls into place from here on, with the Shadow warriors and the Special forces of magic and that one guy Löwe who might've killed Mage Minus(?).

It's kinda heartwarming to see Sense care about Serie that much but I'm really having trouble imagining Serie dying. Macht was merely a toy for her and he was both a very powerful mage and capable in close combat as well...
And on top of this, we have Frieren join the operation. If anything I could see the other mages (or well, the location) holding them back :worry:
Curious about that Sense used to be a proctor part though, yet another new piece for the lore puzzle...

Thanks for the upload!

Oh, is the art AI? I was hoping they weren’t, since the artist (?) has a few posts on their Twitter about their art tips + advice
Edit: Yeah, pretty sure it’s not AI!
Yes, you're right. Sorry for the confusion. Since some chapters had A.I. drawings in the past, I wrongly assumed it was the case here. I was just tired to see A.I. drawings using that kind of style which made me sad for the original artist. Thanks for sharing the source.

Honestly, though I can't imagine Serie dying it is still quite scary to think of her death. I really hope she doesn't as then there'll be only 1 elf mage around. We need to repopulate the elves not exterminate them.

Also, poor Sein didn't get to meet a signal MILF in his journey lol. Hopefully, he meets Methode. Or maybe he'll meet Serie the oldest lady around

You'd think an elf that's been dealing with humans for so long would actually be pretty aware that death can come "in an instant", especially from their point of view. Maybe not to the levels of Forlorn in Pathfinder, but still.

Exactly... and she could have landed that hit, she was further away against Solitar.
