I think barring Macht, this is the closest they came to a wipeout... which is saying a lot about the capacity of a competent state lol.
I think it's hard to judge the gravity of the situation. After all, Frieren was holding back in light of them being in the middle of a town. Obviously, there was a serious threat to their lives but if they would've been at the immediate risk of getting wiped out I imagine Frieren wouldn't have worried about damaging buildings or injuring innocent citizens... Nor signaled Sein to get caught up in a death trap as well for that matter...

Munchkin Flamme best Witch.

tbf Frieren is normal post-Growling up (acknowledging her own emotions and mortality of the other races). Serie is still a child though.

because she is the most powerful being in the world, with an intelligence network everywhere and loyal almost exclusively to her alone, while having the maturity of a child so she is entirely vulnerable.
Why do you keep saying Serie is childlike? Usually you'd call someone child like because they have untempered emotions and little impulse control. When has she ever given that impression?
Yeah, I think Serie is going to die in this arc.

My reason for that is by dying in the Empire, it brings a conclusion to Serie's initial reluctance to grant Flamme's dying wish (to make magic available for human). And by granting that wish, then the Empire was born.

Flamme, one of Serie's most cherished disciple, was the cornerstone of the Empire. The very same Empire who want her dead today.

At least, that's my main reason for Serie's later death. The other reason is about handling an overpowered character in a fictional story.

OP characters such as Levi from AOT and Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen at some point need to be nerfed. To have an OP character in a story is a privelege, but it can also be a hindrance as they can easily become a Deux-Ex Machina whenever the plot convenience it.

In Sousou no Frieren's case, the OP character is obviously Serie. I think the author is trying to deal with her one way or another. Although in my deepest of heart, I hope the author can suprise me with this arc.
What are you talking about? Serie's Magic Association IS Flamme's wish not the Empire.

And there's literally no reason this manga has to deal with her because she's OP. She's been minding her own business this entire time and never once been used as a deus ex machina. If anything the why to deal with her is to have her continue minding her own business.

You're all falling for such obvious bait.

Flamme's wish was granted when she persuaded the Empire to authorize the nationwide study of magic. Her will to Serie was for her old mentor to take over for her in training the (then newly-established) Imperial mages. Series declined, and nearly a thousand years later started her own organization that reports directly to her.

Serie ain't gonna die. while humans are catching up, they haven't caught up yet. and so on. I mean plotwise you could kill her for shock value, but this ain't a "shock value" manga

It's because of the anime planning, when the author isn't that involved anymore it'll probably start being weekly again. The artist doesn't seem to have any issues doing a chapter weekly at least.
Considering how great the first anime series was, then I'm all for the author taking every other week off to make sure the next one is done right.

Not to say she is childlike, but the way she denied Frieren her 1st class ranking was petty, and was a demonstration of exactly that - untempered emotions and little impulse control.

  • Kinda wish the nun got killed off, but on the other hand, their enemies needing to carry her around will slow them down.
  • And she just decides to walk in like a boss. Now I just need an artwork of Serie in that Trump pose with her fist raised after an assassination attempt.

I think the moment Frieren says that Serie won't die with such casualness, I think it means Serie won't die. Especially with others not believing Frieren and being worried for Serie (like Sense), kind of reinforces that. Because to me, that's the kind of manga this is, not betray expectations. And this is Frieren saying it AFTER she encountered the Shadow Warriors. So she definitely knows what she's talking about.
Also for those who theorized Shritt was going to make a move to protect Lowe since we saw her last chapter in front of the inn, xD Welp... hopefully she gets her time to shine somewhere else? Hangovers aren't a joke :3 Heiter would know after all.

They have differing philosophies about magic and passing Frieren would've shown tacit acceptance of her position. They have a fundamental disagreement about what they've dedicated their lives to. It was still petty but it wasn't at all impulsive or emotional.
