I think it's hard to judge the gravity of the situation. After all, Frieren was holding back in light of them being in the middle of a town. Obviously, there was a serious threat to their lives but if they would've been at the immediate risk of getting wiped out I imagine Frieren wouldn't have worried about damaging buildings or injuring innocent citizens... Nor signaled Sein to get caught up in a death trap as well for that matter...I think barring Macht, this is the closest they came to a wipeout... which is saying a lot about the capacity of a competent state lol.
