So Flamme was the one who built that empire? Reminds me of Fou-lu's story in Breath of Fire 4. In there, he was a divine emperor who founded a huge empire, then went into slumber for centuries. When he woke up later, his empire had multiple emperors after him and chased Fou-lu relentlessly to kill him.

Not to say she is childlike, but the way she denied Frieren her 1st class ranking was petty, and was a demonstration of exactly that - untempered emotions and little impulse control.

Serie is not petty and did NOT have untempered emotions and little impulse control.

Did you even try to understand why Serie had to fail her?

Serie had 2 criterias on who she passes.

1. Immense Ambition - The other 1st class passers like Denken and Wirbel fit this category because even if they knew they did not had the capabilities to defeat Serie they at least for a split second thought about it and tried to look for ways. Even if they gave up at the end, they didn't just got scared and cower immediately.

2. Immense Potential - This category is for Fern. Basically even if Fern got scared of Serie as Serie felt. Fern's immense talent that even far surpasses Flamme because she can detect Serie's unsupressed mana allowed her to pass because Serie wanted her as her direct disciple.

Frieren only fits the Potential category BUT because of their different philosophy, (Serie chasing after absolute power, while Frieren only does the bare minimum to kill as many demons possible) Serie knows Frieren is NOT utilizing her FULL potential. Serie even says that for Frieren's Age and Talent she is actually a lot weaker than she is supposed to be.

I don't think Seria will die because if that happens. Empire will go on full-scale war and Frieren's journey can't continue and we leave with a mess story about war.

You're purporting Serie as some sort of objective and infallible authority, but even if we subscribe to the theory that the exam was about gauging the applicants' ambition - which I don't remember being advertised as such prior to them taking the exam - ambition is an intrinsicly subjective concept. She arbitrarily decided that that would be the criterion for what constitutes a first class mage, and she would apply her subjective definition of who is ambitious enough.
This makes the last criterion into "does Serie like you enough to let you pass", turning the whole first class certification into a club of people whom Serie likes, and who are also strong at magic. In that case, yeah, Serie was well within her right to fail Frieren, but that would not only make Serie petty, but also turn the whole certification into a sham.

Serie is clearly preparing the perfect scenario to fake her death... in an attempt to make elves seem easier to kill, and thus, make life more difficult for Frieren (who will have to face more assasins trying to hunt "the last elf"). And, of course, everyone but Frieren will fall for it, because their lives are so short, they can't even begin to comprehend the boredom elves experience.

In fact, I would not be surprised if Serie already pulled up something like this before; just taking a vacation for a few centuries, until a "troublesome civilization" crumbles and she can reappear again, like she never left.

I think that empire is kinda overconfident in their abilities ? I hope this could be their downfall.
I also think in a way that , what if that these great mages is the one that willingly dying because they want to ?

We still don't clearly know what's the backstory of that leader of the enemy. He can be a descendant of flamme to make their confidence more solid

Yes, you're right. Sorry for the confusion. Since some chapters had A.I. drawings in the past, I wrongly assumed it was the case here. I was just tired to see A.I. drawings using that kind of style which made me sad for the original artist. Thanks for sharing the source.

I swear to Christ all these false accusations of using AI art does far more harm to the artists than if you actually just shut the fuck up.

Think about how degrading it is, yet you doing it in the name to defend them.
