Zelyse, Forget You! May your name be an insignificant footnote in the logs of history. A note on a census report dictating your birth and death. Lost in the records of a thousand reports.

And may Fran be a beloved heroine remembered for ages to come.

I disagree. We remember far more heroic myths than villainous ones.

If I were to name the one [villain] most known in the world right now, I would pick a certain rejected painter. That guy existed barely a single generation or 2 ago (using proper generations where someone must have lived out a lifespan, and not the real definitions for the word), super recent.
If I were to think about the oldest ones I can think of, I probably get quite a few still, like trickster-gods or assholes like zeus. But even those are just ancillary to the actual heroes (illead, herakles, etc), or at the very least just one among many (as loki is to the rest of that pantheon). And arguably those myths aren't even about villains, but merely powerful assholes.

Returning to actual heinous villains (and not just mean-spirited gods that aren't actually performing evil en-masse so much as just causing a tiny localized tragedy), I can only think of some inbred royalties merely hundreds of years ago. Beyond that I am drawing blanks.

So no, when it comes to being remembered through prosperity, the "good" guys are in a clear majority. Even if only because the story is through their own eyes (or someone near them) while what actually makes it noteworthy enough to have been remembered was their sheer power/feats (aka the story & storytelling).

Oh, turns out, holy skills are useful against evil stuff. Who could've guessed.
I'm pretty sure its less about the fact its a holy skill and more that the golems looks like giant mutated monster cores, which is just food lol.

No, it's just I read MTL's China Novel, and the racist part about foreigners is so hard to make me read. It's like, nobody is China alliance in the novel. Like every country wants to destroy them.

I agree that what Japan did in WW2 is so horrible that even I can't accept it, but it was more than 60+ years ago, and the majority of the people who joined the war died and were punished. It is like China only accepts all Japanese people who died to give them forgiveness. All because they only learn bad things about Japan. It is not like all Japanese at that time wanted to go to war, and not all can't disobey orders from the military.
It's the attitude that rubs them the wrong way. Visits to shrines of war criminals(like why is there even a shrine), the sweeping under the carpet of history, it isn't taught in school or is referred to as "an incident"

Feels like they’re speedrunning his tragic villain backstory because they’re going to kill him soon

I think the reason why most heroes are forgotten from time are the destruction of records due to war or other causes. That's usually the case but there are other times that a few of them prefer to be forgotten or they were mistakenly designated as a hero but as time goes on and scholars and historians collect more records and artifacts to improve their record's accuracy, they are either no longer recognized as hero but something else and are either forgotten or just get their name buried in a pile of names that didn't do much but their name had some impact for them to be remembered.

It's a mistake that you will be more likely to be remembered for your evil deeds when another can be worst than you if the said individual is given enough time for it. Maybe you'll be remembered more if you have a solid reason to doing those evil deeds but with that reasoning, yeah.... You'll be easily forgotten in the sands of time.

Describing an actual phone and occasionally dropping the word "magic" in it to make it sound fantasy.

To differentiate the alchemy characters from the rest, they use the word "alchemy" a prefix to everything.

The words of your average psychopath.

It's not greed. It's malevolence.

I wonder who'd be better remembered, him or the beast he intends to create. I don't think he thought his cunning plan all the way through.

If power doesn't work, you're not using enough of it.

the sweeping under the carpet of history, it isn't taught in school or is referred to as "an incident"
Isn't that just Chinese SOP?

i can think of someone that meets our current understanding of the concept of Villain and is significantly less contemporary then the Angry Mustache Model: Vlad Tepes III, aka Dracula.
what about Attila the Hun?
