Cut the cap. No matter if you are master chef or loved by god of cooking, no way you an make soup that tastes that good with salted water and like 6 pieces of vegetable scraps.
Reminds me of Satou from Death March. He once went to a charity event by the local church, and was just stirring the simple soup the church made for the poor. Gourmet aristocrats started queuing up to eat that. Because he has maxed-out cooking skill.

I don't understand the worth of their gold but that sounded like a lot of debt...
Their "gold" isn't worth much. But 10 gold would buy you a modest meal (like a curry bread or a god-blessed soup), while 10 000 gold would buy an express mail (delivered by eagle!). I think using 1 gold = 5 Russian rubles is good enough as a quick and dirty conversion.

And so, 300 000 gold seems to be about the right sum to feed and clothe a whole orphanage for a few months.

I don't think we were ever told how much a proper job pays in this world, but an adventurer like Fran could pay their whole debt out of her pocket. She got 195 000 gold the first time she sold monster materials to the guild.
But it's clear that this is not enough to solve the orphanage's problems - clearly, somebody is conspiring against them, so they will just make new problems appear.

Assuming approximately US $6 per pound, that's about 0.05 lbs, or 0.8 oz, or 22.7 g, if I can still math. To put that in perspective, a basic McDonald's hamburger patty is twice that at 1.6 oz.
...So a McD's burger patty is $0.60 worth of ground beef, huh? Jesus, no wonder they make bank.

My granma doesn’t even write her recipes, being such a highly-functional cook…and it’s a bit hard to learn how to cook from her now because she keeps on thinking stuff’s too salty…even if we put no salt on the veggies.

And i genuinely don’t want to learn my mom’s cooking. She’s so health-centered that her taste HAS gone too left field. Who the hell puts edamame and cakalang in fried rice…
Edamame and smoked skipjack tuna in fried rice sounds pretty good though? Just, needs more ingredients.

I think a simple 10 Gold = 1 Yen conversion, or even a 100 gold = 1 dollar rough conversion, is sufficient. 1 gold = 5 rubles is almost equivalent to a 10 gold = 1 yen rate, anyways, and I think something a lot more people would be more familiar with.

…no they don’t match, especially for me since i hate edamame. That was a hell that the family has made clear that only ma liked it, and if the resident not-picky eater family member hates it, then it’s not good.

I've had edamame and skipjack before and it's pretty delicious to me (just never as fried rice additions), so I think it might just be a difference of taste thing. Just, like I said, needs more ingredients to make it a proper meal. Especially since, as you said, you hate edamame.

I don't understand the worth of their gold but that sounded like a lot of debt...
I think that (like in a lot of manga) 1 gold = 1 yen, so it would only be about $3,000 USD, which sounds about right for a short-term loan to an orphanage where the biggest expenditure would be food, which they'd be buying the cheapest of in bulk.

(Calling that unit of currency a "gold" is kinda ridiculous, because there's no way a single coin worth that little would be gold or even just silver no matter how tiny, but most fantasy settings don't care about getting that particular with it.)

hmmm Common food cost around 20-40 gold, most cheaper end food in japan cost around 500 yen if we use the same inflation rate
so lets say, 20 Gold = 500 yen, so its 25 yen per gold.
so 25 x 300000 = 7,5M yen or 52K Usd, i think thats sounds about right.

Nah its like Gold and Gil in video games,Tenken never shy away from the whole world having game system.
Most game have 1 currency anyway like gil, gold, ptas, bells, munny, zenny and so on.
i know a lot other work taking game aspect but they change the currency to reflect our world little bit
because i felt like this is their thought process "yeah there's smartphone that could do anything, yeah we can Bought bunch of item from online supermarket, yeah i have my protagonist power being absolute OP nonsense it's all good, but having 1 currency only without gold, silver, copper ? nah, that just way too ridiculous"

Early in the story, they told us that 2 silver coins and a few copper ones add to 224 "gold". So most likely, it's 1 silver coin = 100 copper coins = 100 gold, 1 gold coin = 100 silver coins = 10 000 copper coins = 10 000 gold.

Weak as they are, got to appreciate those goons though(from villain PoV). Other goons would take the "recipe", burn the place down & call it a day. This one fact check & even corrected the list. If Fran didn't rudely stomp his head in, they would probably have sit down & dissect/revise that recipe.

And then burn down the place & call it a day. Because professionalism.

Blame Dragon Quest and similar games that simplified D&D's copper/silver/gold/platinum currency setup to just a single "GOLD" value, such that it is a trope in and of itself for fantasy stories of any sort, now, even if the currency is not itself gold coinage.

I won't really blame them tho.... unified currency sounds neat, it is rather ridiculous if time travel is involved tho, i mean it is not a problem using money in the stone age despite minting gold coin there should be difficult

You should, because it's like you're buying everything in cents, and all the forms of currency that comprise dollars including larger denomination bills, don't exist. So, no dime, no nickel, no quarter, no half-dollar, no dollar (bill or coin), no $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, etc. Just "Gold", and everything is in priced in the hundreds of them, so enjoy carrying around giant sacks of heavy currency (if they were zinc coins exactly equivalent to modern American zinc pennies, somehow, then the 300,000G that the orphanage gets from this festival, would be 750,000g, aka 750kg. A night's rest in a modest inn is about 400G, so that would be 1kg; generally you'd want at least a week's worth of rentals, so the cost of just the inn room would be 7kg, under this system).

Prior to currency, the barter system was what was in use; you might trade a bunch of dried meat for milk and fresh meat with the local shepherd, or a table with the local carpenter, or some nails and other misc. bits of metalwork, or maybe some repair work from the local blacksmith. Even further before that, it was primarily the family tribe system, where tribes produced their own goods and shared them internally according to who could best use them, and any trading was done between chiefs of tribes that were on good enough terms with each other; otherwise it was generally murder or enslavement for labour and resources (this was universal).

I mean who gives a shit about multiple Currency when 1 currency does the job.
if you play FF14 is it better for you if you have to grind different type or exchange currency from single gil to 6 different type of currency ? Imagine if you have to repair your gear but the said vendor only Accept Silver so you have to go to exhange then back to the melder
then the armorer have different currency, then marketboard have different currency, potion seller have different currency.
and if you say "oh they all are accepting gold, silver, copper or gil" so whats the point of different currency then ? Just RP aspect ?

What you describe is something completely different, under barter rules rather than currency, and you know it. Don't be that guy.

huh what are you talking about ?
ok since you have memory of goldfish and cant remember your own argument and what you reply, big bro here gonna give you quick rundown

Swagger said : "(Calling that unit of currency a "gold" is kinda ridiculous, because there's no way a single coin worth that little would be gold or even just silver no matter how tiny, but most fantasy settings don't care about getting that particular with it.)"

and you said "Blame Dragon Quest and similar games that simplified D&D's copper/silver/gold/platinum currency setup to just a single "GOLD" value, such that it is a trope in and of itself for fantasy stories of any sort, now, even if the currency is not itself gold coinage."

and so i reply to that, are you high on something ? so how am i missed any mark? what do you mean under barter rule ?
You complaining about how Video games Make everything streamline with one currency, and i reply "does it matter ? there's no benefit to it other than RP perspective and the core gameplay mechanic are working fine with that."

so what do you mean by "What you describe is something completely different, under barter rules rather than currency, and you know it. Don't be that guy."?

you can't even actually tackle my argument Like actual human being and disprove my point
and have the gall , the chutzpah to say "don't be that guy"
