In addition to this, the pacing of season 2 leaves an obvious ideal cutoff point right before Chiyo's introduction with Karane's tsundere restoration arc being the climax of the season.

Before her introduction? I'm fully expecting the last scene of the season to be her introduction, followed by a "the anime has been cancelled" joke.

I THINK they're in the clear vis-a-vis death once they admit their feelings and join 'Rentarou's family'.

If there can be gf on gf parallel ships, why not extra boyfriends? How many soul mates can they have, wasn't rentaro's case unique?

Think of it this way: Rentarou is soulmates with each of the girlfriends. Theoretically, by the transitive property, each of the girlfriends are also soulmates with the 99 other girlfriends, so Rentarou is NOT unique: Each of the Family have 100 soulmates.

Actually I think this points towards the opposite, a way of showing the readers that Nano doesn't think of Shizuka in that way

Could see it like that, could see it as Nano's subconscious in the form of dream Rentarou straight up confirming she loves her. To be very literal with the Japanese text, Rentarou says "I came here today in Nano's beloved cute cute Shizuka-chan's appearance", which as you can probably see is either a little ambiguous or very blatant depending on how you want to read it. It was difficult to decide how exactly to translate it.
