true....compared to the great "ladies" i've seen so far in this manga this Obrian lady is... a bit like your "kind aunt from the neighborhood" vibe xD

Ugh, I just can't like this protagonist. She's a textbook example of everything I hate in these blank slate damsel female leads. The rest of the story is great but, holy crap does this protagonist do this story a disservice. Her and her nonsensical family, who we all know could never exist if the author hadn't wanted to create a gimmicky reason for the lead to not be even remotely competent in high society. A family that acts like hers would've been wiped off the face of the planet long before this story started with how dumb and naive they are. What honesty, that's called just being plain stupid.

I actually thought that maybe it might do some good for Connie to lose here, since somehow she hadn't learn the lesson yet. The shock could force her to think twice before taking any dangerous stunt. But may be it will derail the plot too much??

You know what was stupid Connie? NOT READING A CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING IT.

It was cool to see her actually take the initiative at one point which was great until she let Scarlett take control again lmao

How convenient was that, just to have one of the most powerful individuals in high society be an ally just cus of some childhood friendship.

Also I guess it was normal for the time this story is set in but again with the age gap trope? is she really gonna "fall in love" with Count Ulster now?

thank you for the chapter, its a blast seeing two gals just being pals in high society period setting like this one its great to see an MC both want to stand on their own two feet more while also knowing when its time to rely on her stand/best girl. Its a shame however that despite their efforts it came down to which noble families have more weight/power in that region otherwise the two of them could have turned things around.

So Connie was in no position to refuse the inquest apart from legal grounds, which she had limited protection on thanks to Randy, but she decided to come because Debbie was the host of the last Doe Masque, meaning she'd probably have leads regarding Scarlet's death. She decided to take the gamble, saving her outward social standing (by not refusing one of the Big Four) and seeking to potentially win information over. I can follow the reasoning.

Her mistake, however, was thinking that Debbie's lackeys were like the bystanders during the Pamela affair, who would sway under sufficient pressure—she did not take into account how Debbie flings her weight around since, objectively, she did hold the most power in the room.

On one hand, it was cool that she and Scarlet learned to work together in mutual trust for once, and that the switch was not Scarlet saving Connie, but Connie actively pushing back. In the other hand, not only did she fail the gamble (for info), it could've gone more disastrously had Randy not ask for help.

Bit of an asspull, but I think Connie is progressing in the right direction as an MC. Her mindset has formed enough of an ego that she did not want to take people trampling on her sitting down. She simply needs more resourcefulness, which she severely lacks so far.
