@Sahmir Just want to add in a quick word, please keep in mind that it's made clear in this chapter that the old lord and Co. were collecting taxes and using it for themselves while people were starving. There were people's lives who literally depended on the guy infiltrating and going along with the spy mission, despite that he was a 14 year old kid who was spending almost all his time with a genuinely good hearted, though naive, girl who developed feelings for him. While if you want to poke holes in how good a 14 year old would be at concealing his identity when he had to lie about his age, his name, his background, and even dye his hair constantly, it's pretty clearly communicated that all of those disparaging comments were either said out-loud by the MC or were in her head, and while what he did really did mess her up, he's shown regret and sympathy for those actions. It's been clearly communicated that he did care for her, and while the situation she was in was very messed up, since he was a 14 year old kid who had mutual feelings with her (given that he told her the truth about his hometown it's clear that she did get to see his actual personality, even if she doesn't think she did) and lives of not only the people as a whole but even his own family (since they were among the people suffering that he's now helping as the lord) I'm not going to fault him for making a really bad judgement call about how badly this would affect her, he tried to explain things to her, he tried to get her out of the situation, but she wouldn't have any of it, and you can see the pain that it causes him back in chapter one.
