Oh no, it just clicked. Boyfriend-kun is "Saa-kun" and the friend in his flashback dream called him Masaachika.

Oh, the moment i've seen the image in the neckles i knew they "away boyfriend" was the MC. I wanted it to be not true but here we are. We can have shit without a fucking love triangle and with two sisters at that. Droped.

What's with this "student council" room, that's fit for a palace or luxury mansion

Am I the only one thinking saying a student has a motherly aura isn't exactly a compliment but rather a bit weird?
Also it's so weird to see them constantly getting addressed as "younger/older kujou sister" without any honorifics or whatever but I guess that spot is taken by the "sister" bit. That's what happens when folks share a family name and you can't / don't use first names huh...

Why do I feel like Masha's getting NTR'd by her little sister. I think the boyfriend was just made up to decrease the count of confessants a little, while she was waiting for her childhood prince, who fell for her younger sister in the meantime (due to moving between Russia and Japan)...
Then again, Alya knows of this lover too and since this is supposedly a somewhat longer lasting relationship I'd imagine fooling her as well would be rather tough...

Ah yeah, the classic crossed hands in front of the face. That's when you know a very serious crisis is about to unfold...

He already did, five years ago (though his trauma-induced memory loss has left him currently unaware that Masha is the same girl from back then). She's eventually gonna try to return the favor, though that's a very long way off.
Do either sisters found out he actually knows what they’re saying?

We've already seen Masha surprised he didn't react to her speaking in Russian when they were reintroduced. She will confront him about the need to tell Alya about it eventually, but that whole event is quite some distance from where we are now, especially given how meticulously the manga is handling the source material.

Thanks for the chapter, Scylla/TIS.

His first love was Masha when they were kids. Outside of that though? Because it was so long ago he doesn't remember much about her besides what he felt, he does eventually remember and eventually again his feelings for her have come back a little bit.

It also seems like he's started to like Alya more with all the time they've spent together. I'm not sure if he realizes it yet though.

Like clockwork.

Girls who look like Maria always end up positioned as jobbers for girls with perpetually angry faces like Alya; in this case, the busty, gentle-eyed Maria's gonna get NTRd by her 24/7-stronk, medium "premium" sister by the looks of what you said.

If you ask me, Maria beats Alya in every way, including as a female lead; I only started reading this manga because one piece of official artwork made Alya look better than she does. (The irony is that Alya's character itself, positioned as female lead, is a font of mediocrity--despite how she's so driven to excel.) Consequently, I have no interest in Alya. Knowing this, and knowing where things are going, do you think I should just quit this manga?

Masha's boyfriend who is named Saa-kun is actually Kuze Masachika. It came from how she pronounced his name (MaSAAchika).

Back when they were younger, Masachika and Maria spent a lot of time together and fell in love. It ended somewhat badly when Maria had to leave for Russia.

Maria, having shit Japanese when she was younger, mistakenly said that she does not want to see Masachika again when she really meant 'If we really are fated to be together, we will meet again'. Masachika, with all the trauma and confidence issues he had when he was younger, had processed this really, really bad and thought Maria didn't love him anymore. He even kept coming back to their meeting place because he could not believe what he thought Maria said, and eventually gave up on her after some time.

As for why he did not recognize Maria, she used to be blonde with blue eyes when she was younger. And on Maria's side, she had a big hunch that Masachika was Saa-kun but when she tried to speak Russian to him Masachika did not respond (they used to speak Russian to each other).

This is like Netoge, except the girl who created the misunderstanding is going to lose to a lesser girl positioned to win from the start. I think I've seen this kind of scenario elsewhere, but that's the first and only one that comes to mind clearly.

Legit sat here debating it for far longer than I care to admit thinking of how to answer that as there's a lot more that could be said since I've made that comment.

Honestly, I don't have a solid answer so I'll instead try to give some info that can help you decide.

The story is a rather slow burn (to put it generously). Which might be a deal breaker if you're just not feeling it with the characters as it may be a while before something happens or changes that make you interested in them.
To put it into perspective, we're up to 9 LN volumes and it isn't until the end of Volume 8 that Alya learns about Masachika being related to Yuki. Meanwhile, as of this chapter (26), I want to say we're either toward the end of Volume 1 or around the start of Volume 2. With the latest chapter (55 at time of writing) we're not far from the end of Volume 2.

So there's still a lot of events and development to happen.

If you're mainly rooting for Maria to win over Alya and that's primarily what you're here for, I don't really have a solid answer.

At one point Masachika declares (to himself, I think. Been a while since I've read that Volume and chapter that I don't remember it exactly) that Maria was just his childhood love. That he doesn't see her like that and how he wants to close that chapter of his life. Maria also knows that Alya seems to have feelings for him and that she won't be pursuing him because she wants Alya to be happy.

You'd think that'd be the end, however, Maria had also decided to go back on the attack. Not long after (or around the same time, I forget which) Masachika starts to see Maria in the same light as he once did.

You'd think it'd be obvious from the get-go who'll win with the whole Alya being on the cover, the story starting and being about her, and all that. Honestly, I do think she's gonna end up winning, but there's been enough happenings with Maria that there's some doubt even though I know better. Know what I mean?

Yes, I absolutely do. Especially since I've seen this sort of thing happen before, in almost exactly the same circumstances:

・Two girls end up competing, one of them is very clearly the main girl--she's on all the covers, she's had all the solid focus
・Other girl is a childhood friend/love interest--whose relationship was suspended for a time
・MC spends time with main girl, with first girl being present but just not meaning as much because she wasn't around--or some other reason
・ First girl takes the loss (usually gracefully, for the sake of doing the Right Thing™)

Those are the developments I've become very familiar with--actually, such a development is exactly what people know childhood friends to be used almost exclusively for, where romance is concerned. The physical appearances are almost always the same, too. Regarding Maria's recanting her acceptance, I've seen that sort of thing too--along with the MC appearing to regain old feelings for the romantic loser.

It reeks of dangled carrots.

Frankly, it seems as if the author's just creating drama to pad the story while keeping Maria in the mix to hook her fans with hopes that she'll actually win. I get what you mean: the events create doubt in the certainty of Alya's win, yes--but just how much? The manga is explicitly named after her--she can't just permanently exit stage left for someone else, and it's hard to imagine her doing so. It doesn't help, in addition, that Maria is the kind of girl that does not receive much vocal support--and this goes double for authors, who seem to disfavor (at best; at worst, hate) girls like her on principle.
